Olly Murs and Cher Lloyd US albums

Olly Murs and Cher Lloyd will release their albums in the USA in the next days (Olly: sep 25 / Cher: oct 2).

Based on their single sales I think Cher will sell more than Olly on the 1st week.. I think Epic is investing more in her.

But I'm sure that both of them will sell a lot more than Rebecca Ferguson who released her album without any songs on top 100 and just sold 30,000 copies (peak #23) until now. I expect a TOP 10 album for Cher and maybe a TOP 20 for Olly.

What do y`all think???

In terms of airplay and single success, there is no doubt that the scale goes a from definite hit (Want U Back) to very small radio presence (Rebecca) with Olly half way.

But as much as radio is the most powerful advertising tool for music, album sales are not necessarily proportional to airplay. For example, The Wanted's single did extremely well, possibly even better than What Makes You Beautiful, but their album sold peanuts.

Anyway, are you sure about Olly's US album release date?It is still not available for pre-order on Amazon.com, and other online stores or included in any new release list.

OK, thanks. I still can't find any hard copy on pre-order, which is strange two weeks before release!

Good question.

Albums will vary by demographic (eg Rebecca will sell more than Cher in all likelihood all other things being equal - which they probably aren't in the US), and culture too. I didn't know about the Wanted's album in the US but I note that even 1D have only shifted about twice the number in the US as the UK whereas you'd expect a lot more given the population of the US if they bought albums in the same sort of ratio as the UK (looking at the sales generally I suspect they don't).

Cher's album reached about 41 briefly when it went for pre orders and has since dropped away sharply ( to be expected). It seemed to fairly closely shadow Diana Krall's latest album's pre order pattern in that sense ( out the same day) and she's "well established" (no idea where hers is now). The question I posed on the AT was "is that any good in context?". Should it have gone higher or was that good. Anyone know? 1D are at 2 on pre orders and it's not due till November but they're in a league with Adele really let's be fair!

So I think Cher will do "ok" with her album, no more really given her demographic generally and US album buying patterns, I'm reluctant to put a figure not out of fear of getting shot down but cos I don't really know enough!

Olly, hmm ..... Well on the face of it it doesn't look promising seeing as his single had been skimming around ITunes 90 odd but, he probably appeals to an older base, he's toured with1D and he has ( as far as I can see) constantly surprised on the upside in his career. The guy's seriously successful here at least no doubts. So I suspect his album won't sell as many as Chers but might do better than we think long term.

I think they're launching Olly because a lot of 1D fans will have seen him supporting them on tour, but he seems to English for the US market.
