Emmerdale: does Diane still wear a wig?
KornerKabin

Another great thread title from KK

Seriously though, does anyone remember when Diane first appeared in 1999 that she was shown to wear a wig? I remember one scene where her wig came of and she had dark hair underneath.

I'm a very infrequent viewer of Emmerdale these days and I know that Diane has been away from the show for a while, but is the character still referenced as wearing a wig or is that too much to hope for in the days of character transplants and forgotten histories?

Any help much appreciated!

As I understand, the character is no longer referenced as wearing a wig but Elizabeth Estensen still wears a wig for the part. Hope that helps.

Diane's wig looks more real than Chas Dingles... Is she related to Jessie J?

No she doesn't, that's Elizabeth Estensen's real hair.

The thing with Diane & the wig is kind of confusing. When she first arrived it was a wig. After a while Diane supposedly changed her hair colour so she would no longer have to wear a wig however in reality Elizabeth Estensen was still wearing a wig for the part.

Throughout the 00's Elizabeth Estensen had to wear a variety of terrible wigs that was meant to be Diane's real hair! Up until 2008/9 when Elizabeth Estensen changed her hairstyle to what we see now.

More likely long lost daughter of Ronnie Wood.

See what I mean?

Could've sworn it was a wig but you seem better informed than me...

I don't know for sure but Dianes hair looks like her own hair now.
I can usually tell if they are wearing wigs. I didn't know that Val wears one!

*THIS IS NOT A JOKE THREAD*

Honest, I really want to know the answer to this question and clearly remember when Diane took her wig off. I think I even remember her putting it on a wig stand at some point.

My reputation is in tatters!

I also remember the wig stand scene, I believe she was up to shenanigans with Alan Turner at the time and one of them was wearing motorcycle leather...

When Nicola left in 2006 and had a tirade at everyone in the Woolpack I remember her saying to Diane; "shut up wiggy" or something to that effect.

I remember a reference to the actress wearing a wig, in fact I'd completely forgotten about it, till I saw this thread!

This doesn't answer the question in any way but I think the whole wig thing came about on-screen because the (original) wig was so unrealistic looking that they decided to make it part of the character (that she wears a wig) as a form of lampshading (a term which means having a character draw attention to something as a means of glossing over it).

i.e. if a an actress in a soap is clearly wearing a wig but none of the characters seem to notice it, that would be unrealistic and would stand out to viewers as odd. By drawing attention to it on-screen, by having the character of Diane admit that she wears a wig, it draws a line under it and everyone can move on.

Of course we all know that she is T-Bag in disguise which is why she wears a wig in the first place.

No because then they put her in wigs that looked even more unreal and at the point it was meant to be her real hair!

Is Val's hair a wig? I'm pretty sure it is.

I seem to remember something (hazy so apologies if I'm wrong!) about Diane putting her wig on wonky not long after she'd got together with Jack. Jack straightened it out for her and Diane got in a major huff because he'd drawn attention to fact that she was wearing a wig. They rowed for a few days until Diane got over her sensitivity about it, and then there was the scene where she threw it on the wigstand.

But was it not in the story that she needed a wig again when Diane was undergoing treatment for cancer? Or was this before she had supposedly gone back to her natural colour?
