Is it worth switching from low fat to skim milk for tea?

Began a diet today and was wondering whether the amount in tea is too small to make any difference? although I do drink a lot of tea?.

Does anyone also know whether there is much calories in cabbage,onions or carrots?.

Can anyone recommend low calorie foods?.

Targeting 1lb weight loss per week for rest of year.

There are not many calories in those veg Zowie. I suggest you try this site, it's excellent and will give you all the calorific values and plan your meals for you. There is also a forum where lots of support is available. 1lb a week is a very sensible target by the way. Good luck!

Onions are devious little buggers.

Personally, for the tea, I'd stick to semiskimmed (full fat tastes a bit greasy, skimmed is just pointless). Or, get into teas that don't need milk (Lady grey is nice, but for the convenience at work I tend to go for a ginger & lemon tea).

Weight loss by diet alone is difficult to maintain, it's far easier if you introduce some modicum of exercise as well.

Thanks Summat and Indianwells,il take a look at and possibly join those sites!

Oh I've been doing 10K runs,so I already exercise a lot,but still find myself overweight,isn't just muscle,theres a few blocks of butter on my abdomen,chocolate,wine and too many treats frankly...

I would agree with this. For taste reasons, I wouldn't really recommend skimmed milk for adding to tea (to me, it is just like having the tea black). However, if you are drinking lots of tea, it may be worth switching to herbal teas. There are lots of nice flavours, and less caffeine.

There is a wealth of resources out there. Other websites I know of are Fatsecret.com or sparkpeople.com.

1lb/week is a sensible and achievable goal. I think the most important thing is to view it as a lifestyle change rather than a diet. Statistics suggest that over half of people who lose weight, regain it within the first few years - those who crash diets are most likely to fall into that category. Sounds like the way you want to do it is the best way for long term success!

Thanks Angelica,can there be a case for a diet and then a change in lifestyle? to simply break evens between calories 'eaten' and those 'used' is possible -after- the weight has been lost,but now (I'm targeting 28lb loss) I need to burn more than I consume,so that's a diet?.

When the weight is lost then I could have the odd treat,but not now.

So are 2 plans necessary?

I don't like skimmed milk...but do drink a lot of milk...the one with the purple top is great..it is between skimmed and semi skimmed!!

Trouble with skimmed milk in tea is that you end up putting twice as much in to get it to taste and that rather defeats the object. You could try dinking weak black tea like they do in Holland. It's quite nice as long as you don't leave the tea bag in for long, or else use one tea bag for a large teapot.
