British Solo Females Who Haven't Won The Critics Choice Award

I often feel British female artists are overlooked unless they win the Brits Critics Choice award, which started a few years back where the likes of Adele, Florence & The Machine, Ellie Goulding, Jessie J and Emeli Sande have been awarded the prize.

I've just been thinking that female artists who haven't had this award have had a tougher time; females such as Katy B, Delilah and Lianne La Havas more recently have produced albums superior to the debuts of Ellie and Jessie especially.

What are your views on british female artists and do you agree that those winning with coveted award have it a lot easier? There are loads of other brit solo females who haven't won the award and who i feel deserve the same if not more amount of credit;

Paloma Faith
Marina & The Diamonds
Jessie Ware
Little Boots
Eliza Doolittle

I wouldn't say they have a harder time only because a few of those who have the Critics Choice were doing it for YEARS before they got it. Especially Jessie J. She had an album ready to go 3 or 4 years ago before her label went bankrupt and has been signed in the US for quite a while even before she was signed in the UK. It wasn't as easy for her as getting the Critics Choice and then tada. She had to work for that thing. Emeli hasn't had near an easy road either.

I think the Critics Choice just helps you get widespread exposure sooner than some of the others, but that isn't to say they haven't been trying like crazy for years and years. I think one thing people look to is the BBC Sound award. The 2011 award had a few in consideration that did absolutely nothing that year. Even Little Boots won in 09 and Marina and the Diamonds had second place to Ellie Goulding in 2010. It's a lot that goes into it and the Critics Choice is a small one. Most people see it as a premature award.(which it is)
