What do you think?

I think she could be, just hope she doesn't burn out.

I personally think she is classier and more artistic. Still love old Madge though.

Lady gaga is the new Lady Gaga she is a conglomeration of all her different influences and as yet has no real artistic identity of her own but she can become (if she stops acting like a tit in a meat dress trying to solve th isuues of mankind single handeldy preachy cow ) a legend in her own right and her own way but she is far from it just something that shone bright between 2008-10.

With Madonna I would be more likely to draw comparison to Katy Perry than Gaga

Madge was more artistic back in her day than Gaga is just now.

It could go either way for Gaga, if she keeps with the attention seeking clothes and cliché's she'll be done soon. She'll also be done if she keeps trying to different for the sake of being different. However if she goes back to creating music ala The Fame then she'll be around for a long time but if not i think she'll have 2/3 more albums tops. Couldn't care either way, the woman annoys me as do over abusive fanboys.

This won't end well.

I'm assuming we're talking about relative success/impact level? In which case, I think Gaga has a good shot at being this generations defining female popstar, as Britney and Madonna were before her.

She's got the songwriting talent and fanbase to survive her through inevitable career lows - which is half the battle - so I don't imagine she's going anywhere anytime soon. Plus, she's got a keen marketing savvy, which is something that has served Madonna well.

what artistic identity does M hold over her?

My teenager went to LGs concert last night and said she was telling the audience I am not a man I am not a woman I am You

Nope Lady Gaga is the same old Gaga to me. Never will be Madonna. That's Madonna's job if I'm not wrong.

You know, when Madonna was starting out, Cyndi Lauper was doing really well, and people thought that Madonna would have the shorter life-span on the charts out of the two of them

They were wrong.

It could go a similar way with Katy and Gaga.
