Like other posters recently, I've given up on this show. Can't see any point in Evan Davies' comments, find the editing extremely irritating and, as an ex-accountant and FD, get very frustrated that we never see any numbers. In the early series the Dragons always asked about the financial results, the balance sheet and the cash flow, and what was going to happen with their investment. And the show makes such a big deal about an invesment of £50k or so - absolute chicken feed to the Dragons. If they had a minimum investment of £1m we might see some serious questions and a show that could be taken seriously. But of course, it's "entertainment" and not meant to be taken seriously so who I am kidding?

Also, as I've said before, the most recent dragon additions are very much just interested in their own individual niches and there's not the cross-over into other sectors that earlier versions of the show had with the likes of Theo, Duncan, James and Richard. Deborah and Peter, yes to a lesser or greater extent, but the others very rarely. The straps seemed to be an interesting idea and looked to work but we never even saw anyone ask how much they sold for or what they cost to make, where they were sold or anything else very tangible, it was all about how the business had been financed. Important, yes, but that's not the be all and end all. The fact that the business was more about making and selling the bags, not just replacement straps was mentioned but completely glossed over. If they can grow the business to sell huge numbers of bags profitably, the other manufacturers catching up is not quite so relevant. Likewise it appears that Nick invested in the pork scratching business without knowing any answers to the same pertinent questions like how much they cost to make, how much they sold for, where they were being sold or what the competition in the market was like. No discussion about how the pitchers had got on trying to get the product into supermarkets or any other retailers. |

I'm still loving the Dragon's Den, and so happy to see the reaction room not appear in the last episode, hopefully they scrapped it

I don't understand why you accept the offer straight up. At least ask her to match it. Worst she says is no.

However, I wonder if the latter is now discouraged? It doesn't seem to happen any more and when it did, the Dragons started getting shirty as if their reputations were being questioned and so they made the pitchers look as if they hadn't done any research on them. Odd really because if the Dragons are all going to offer the same terms, then they really should have to talk up their offers a little further in order to seal the deal. |

I'm amazed that this pile of old tosh is still going. ISTM to be mostly about Jones pretending he's witty, and the others sneering at people who are there because they need the Dragon's skills.
Shark Tank, the US equivalent, is so much better. Just because someone has gone out, doesn't mean they can't come back in, and they're forever undercutting or outbidding each other. Okay, there's still some clever dickery and ego polishing going on, but the main focus seems to be finding ideas that will sell, and then backing those ideas all the way to market. |

The bloke with the water saving contraption at the beginning... I'm not sure I quite followed the Dragons argument about the hygiene issue. In typical toilets, you go to the loo, get some faecal matter on your hands (if you're not careful), you turn on the tap and deposit some faecal matter on it, wash your hands which will now be clean, then somehow you have to turn the tap back off. Problem is that there is faecal matter on it. So your now clean hands have got 'some' faecal matter back on them.
This didn't really happen with his idea as you didn't need to touch it again to turn it off... you went away from it with clean hands. Granted, it is not a problem with those motion sensor taps that are about these days. Last edited by cousinDave : 16-08-2016 at 11:40. Reason: Typo |

Anyway the bigger problem is likely to be with touching door handles getting out of the toilet, because of contamination by the minority who don't wash their hands. (I seem to remember another Den invention which was supposed to help with that, but it got no investment either.) |
