I think it is an interesting investment. At 12 quid I could see that as a gift for someone to buy a young family. You can easy see that in boots or mothercares xmas stock and gran buying for one of the kids. As the tablet holder I was a bit surprised. My first thought was as Peter said who really holds it with one hand like that? In industry they use specialised rugged tablets with tough cases which often have handles. I thought the tray holder was a much better idea. |

the only thing is will it.....wake people at night time ?? will kids be pressing it just for the tune and waste water? does it play just the one tune cause kids will soon tire of it? i'm surprised these questions weren't asked |

I have three kids who are not great at flushing so I totally get kids flush and would buy it. But when I looked on their website it only fixes to round buttons and ours is square. He needs to vary the designs for all flushes - button and handles. My kids also are rubbish at turning the bathroom light off, incapable of brushing their teeth without decorating the sink in paste and can't seem to put the toothpaste lid back on. If he can create gadgets for all those I'd buy them, there could actually be quite a nice business in gadgets to help kids in the bathroom....

The parking thing was daft, how would you get a sensor in every parking place in every town, not to mention if you would get permission, then theres the "maintainance" of those devices.

the only thing is will it.....wake people at night time ?? will kids be pressing it just for the tune and waste water? does it play just the one tune cause kids will soon tire of it? i'm surprised these questions weren't asked You need to have the specific type of button flush. I have a button but it is raised (and a different shape) so it wouldn't fit mine. The post above suggests most toilets are like the button shown so perhaps they are more common than I presumed but it still limits the market. Then it is only relevant for households with children within a narrow age range (old enough to flush themselves but not so old that this would be too childish for them). Then it would only likely be bought once by any given household as if it breaks they are unlikely to get another one. Then it would probably only be for one bathroom as parents would likely not want it in an en-suite toilet or their "grown-ups" toilet. Then, as with anything, there would only be a proportion of people who fit the criteria who would be interested. All of these mean the actual potential sales will be many times lower than "loads of toilets and loads of kids about". You might say "what about starting with a bigger market such as including the US or Europe etc.?". The problem there is that if it took off in a bigger way it can be easily copied. Not just copied actually but bettered. Imagine if Disney decided to do a version and had their characters saying "good flush there" or it played a snippet of a song from Frozen. Along with the might of their marketing and sales point advantage, it would also simply be a more attractive version. So it either is very limited in scope or it gets crushed by the big boys in the event of it really taking off. As a cottage industry type business it might be a sufficient earner but it is not suitable for a DD investment. He was a nice guy but it was bizarre that he got the investment. |

I can see why she may have done that. Tablet's are a current tech that's highly popular. That won't be the case forever. Trays will be around forever.
Also you mention that trays will be around forever. Does that not suggest that it would be a bad move to put the brakes on your advantage? They could push on with the tray and become the market leaders that everyone goes to. This, as you suggest, has long term potential as the use of trays may be around for many years to come. Stopping involvement allows someone else to come in and usurp your advantage. An advantage that took effort to develop. I do wonder if it might have been that the feedback was not great on the tray. I can imagine that waiting staff might find it awkward to use the holder part and that they might simply be more used to a regular tray. It is also not clear just how much benefit the holder gives. It doesn't stop the glasses or plates falling and smashing. It just stops the plastic tray falling which will not break anyway. It could be one of those situations where it sounds great in theory but in practice is either of negligible benefit or maybe even not liked by the people actually using it. I certainly got the impression that the interest or positivity towards the tray had declined and that was part of the reason for shelving it. As for the tablet holder, I thought it seemed quite good. I can see loads of people finding that a comfortable and natural way to hold the tablet. The main concern would simply be that there are so many tablet accessories about that it would be hard to get noticed. I didn't really see why it was apparently such a weird way to use a tablet though. |
