I thought the dragons weren't allowed to offer more money.

The amount of filler in the show must surely be to save chopping out bits when they sell it overseas at 45 - 50 mins per episode.

I reckon she should have pushed for £40k from Deborah and Peter for 20% each. They'd have gone for that imo. Having those two on board would be great. Silly girl

Yeah she should have at least asked. Weird. It was as if she got to the offers bit and didn't really want one.

She already had the money offered from elsewhere. This was just for a bit of promotion.

Exactly. She waited until the offers had come in before mentioning that. And knowing that Peter and Deborah wanted 40% and 33 1/3% respectively they were never going to accept the 15% she said she would go to. Free publicity.

I'm guessing a rich friend or family member. Otherwise the dragons were right that her valuation was miles out.

The name's fine (by that, I mean it wouldn't put me off buying the item) IMO but as Piers implied, the product is just L/XL size clothing.
yet as obvious as that sounds, and the Dragons clearly didnt get this, thats not something the existing cycling clothing manufacturers do cater for. FLAB are actually hitting a market that most cycling kit makers (whose sizing is generally influenced by the professional riders and teams they supply and the public side is just an offshoot of that) havent shown any interest in supplying, as else theyd have fixed their sizings to match, whereas most L/XL cycling kit they make is more like an actual M in size.

so I dont think they understood the investment opportunity well enough to judge properly. cyclists will buy that stuff because its actually designed to fit them, and because its a quirky brand

One of the dragons did point out that a lot of amateur cyclists do take up the sport in order to lose weight and thus are big to begin with, so it's strange that the existing brands haven't capitalised on that. With that being said though, I suppose even if the dragons did like the FLAB brand, they would question what would happen to FLAB if and when the existing brands did begin to cater for FLAB's target market.

Yes, every time a food based pitch comes on he mentions it, as if we'd ever forget

The marshmallow woman's appearance has had the desired effect, people have been clamouring to order marshmallows, her site crashed with all the traffic and there has been a lot of mentions on Twitter and Facebook.

Those UKick guys claim to have designed the thing themselves but that is actually something that originated from Asia which many kids play.

Unbelievable that they conveniently ignore that fact in their pitch and website...

True, there was never any mention of rights or patent if you can get one on that.

On the wiki page it mentions a Hong Kong firm has a patent on a plastic version, but I guess the traditional feather one couldn't be anymore than you could patent the shuttlecock.

I'm sure I've played with this kind of thing in my youth - not for keepy-uppy, but at the end there was a very brief glimpse of them being thrown into a target on the ground.

I couldn't believe the cheek of those " inventors" with their kicking game, 4 feathers on a weight, cost 70 pence selling for £7. 99. They must think people are idiots!
Was it retail at £7.99? If so then I don't see the problem.

4 coloured feathers stuck on a weighted base. Invention?
It's a joke !
I'd have been too embarrassed to take it into the den.
At £7.99 ,retail, costing 70 pence to make , it's a robbery.
I can't imagine why anyone would be tempted to buy it.

You are forgetting they were selling to retailers at wholesale price. With shipping and other costs taken into account their margins would be tiny, as the Dragons pointed out.

I thought it was a great idea though, but "ukick" was a poor name. A name related to the feathers and colours would have been better.

And mods, Dragons Den isn't a reality show, apart from it having real people in it. Please move the main thread back here.
