[Game] The X Factor: Mix It Up! - Live Show #5
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to The X Factor: Mix It Up!
Last Thursday, our top 10 of relatively unknown ex-contestants took on 'Debut Singles' by other artists. While the theme wasn't the hardest the acts faced, the show itself didn't go quite as well as everyone was hoping. After many mixed comments and (constructive) criticism, The Lovettes and John Wilding both found themselves in the bottom 2 for the first time. The judges were unable to reach a majority vote, and in the end The Lovettes were sent home after it was revealed that they polled the lowest amount of public votes after we went to deadlock for the second time this series. Tonight, the remaining nine contestants will be going acoustic in our 'Unplugged' theme. No beats, no production, no drama. Just the acts and the music. Sounds lovely, doesn't it? Unfortunately, one more act will have to leave us tonight, so the pressure is on! After all nine acts have sung, the lines will open and you, the DS public, will be able to vote for your favorites. Once the voting window closes, the votes will be tallied and the bottom two will be announced. These acts will then sing again to convince the judges that they need to stay in the competition! Now, let's cut to the chase! Please welcome our four judges and their acts: unclekevo and the OVERS Faye Bray Michelle Barrett Yuli Minguel Soppyfan and the last of the GROUPS Miss Fitz jackel1234 and the GIRLS Despina Pilavakis Shanna Goodhead And finally SacredDiablo and the BOYS Brennin Hunt John Adams John Wilding A little on the late side, but the weather was pretty good today, so who can blame me? Judges, are you all here? |

SD PMed me that he will be present tonight, but he also told me he'll be unable to post his comments. As lucky as you all are, I will post his endless criticisms for him! ![]() Anyway, let's get started with the first act of tonight's show. Going acoustic for the very first time in his Mix It Up! adventure, it's Brennin Hunt singing 'Like a Stone' by Audioslave (Andy Forster cover) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcK2OLHIYoI |

What SD has to say:
Brennin Hunt
Dude, that was brilliant. It was perfect on every level. That was such a good song and you nailed it. I particularly adored your articulation and your vocals were stunning. The arrangement was amazing and you definitely delivered one the of best performances yet. You have a really raw and sublime voice and i hope that we can continue to showcase that right to the end. |

Brennin, what a start to the show. I really enjoyed that cover of the song. It had the right tone and control for your vocals within that song choice. I will agree that it was a really great performance. I think your mentor may have a potential finalist on his hands, I believe you're gonna be around for a very long time now. Absolutely well done to you, Brennin, I loved it.

That was fantastic for you Brennin. It suited the roughness in your vocals and the style that your mentor is attempting to take you'd own and I think you've broken the curse of the first performer. Great start Brennin and I really do think that you'll be safe tonight. |

I have no idea where Kev is, but he can catch up later as we're well past six now. The next act is one of Jack's girls. After the disaster that was show #2, the girls seem to be back on track under Jack's mentoring. Jack, why don't you introduce your first act (unless you can't, then just say so and I'll do it)? To be honest, i didnt quite like it. I dont think that it was right for your tone and style. You dont have such quality. Therefore, i thought that it didnt allow you to showcase your beautiful tone. The song was fine and you sang it pretty well but i thought it didnt suit you that well. I actually thought that it would have suited Shanna much better though. Nonetheless, great effort! |

I have to disagree, that was absolutely fantastic! I thought on the last show was your best to date but once again, you have shown us that we haven't seen the best of you yet and tonight, you took it up by another step. I really do wanna see you in the final, let alone next week! Brilliant performance from you, girl, just outstanding!

Mixed comments for Despina, but at least she's got the full support of both her own mentor and Soppyfan now. However, she's also going to need the public's support if she want to make it through!
Okay, it's time for the first of the overs tonight. She got grilled a few times over the past few shows, but that hasn't stopped her in the past and it's not going to stop her now. Hoping to turn her luck around, it's Faye Bray with 'I Wish' by She Tells Lies (Acoustic) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQhqE93HpZo |

Faye Bray
Faye, I haven't been keen on you for a while and you have been slipping down for the past few shows. But if I'm honest tonight, you're right back to where you are before. In other words, that was a really good song choice. It wasn't exactly close to perfect, but I know you have a little more left to give. We'll see however if the public will keep you in for longer when Yuli & Michelle are constantly improving loads.

I was rather shocked when you had negative comments from the judges last week as you actually topped my vote. However, i wasnt a fan of that performance. It actually suited you fairly well but i thought that the vocals were a little rough. I also thought that the song was a little dull for someone like you. It was poorly controlled and delivered. I didnt really dig it this time. |

And yet again Faye didn't manage to convince the whole judging panel. Now the question is whether she'll be lucky enough to get the public to vote for her or not.
Next up, it's the groups! They've been hit hard over the past two shows, and are now the first category that only has one act left. Soppyfan, please introduce your first and final act. |

Girls, I know it has been a real nightmare for both you and for me because of what's happened to the groups lately, but I take full responsibility for my choices which I will admit have not done well for the past two shows. Nonetheless, you totally did what you could with that song, it was really beautiful and you all sang with a great range of harmonies. I'm proud to have got you this far.

Oh what an original and inspired song choice by your mentor after i mentioned that Mamo Do by Pixie was the perfect kinda song and style for Miss Fitz. Having said that, it was a really great improvement and i liked it. It clearly wasnt the best but you did a really good job. Your mentor should carry on experimenting with similar songs. Well done, you should be proud of yourselves! |

Some good comments for Miss Fitz tonight, but it remains to be seen if they have done well enough to avoid falling into the bottom 2 due to them bouncing back last show.
Next up, it's the lovely Dutch lady: Yuli Minguel singing 'Think Of You' by Ledisi (Acoustic) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcmwNN6IKDA |

Sorry, forgot all about the show.
Brennin Hunt Really good performance Brennin, you completely delivered both on an emotional level and on a vocal level, you're definitely the stand-out from your category for me at least and I really can see you going pretty far in this competition if I'm being honest, another great performance, well done. Despina Pilavikas Hmm Despina, that was alright, last week you were amazing but this week a little less so IMO. The problem for me is that I see Leanne as a soul artist whereas you don't quite fit into that category as you have a little bit more attitude and more urban edge to your voice, vocally you did a good job but compared to last week, it was a bit of a let down. Faye Bray That was incredible Faye, you really wowed me once again with that performance. I was surprised to see you getting a negative reaction last week but I decided to take it as a challenge to really try and get you back to your usual standard this week and I believe that I managed to do that with this song choice, it was a spectacular performance and a lovely fit for your voice and I really want the public to get behind you. Miss Fitz Hmm, girls, I didn't love that, for me, your vocals are far more powerful and jazzy and this performance was neither of those things, it would have suited The Lovettes perfectly if they were still in the competition but for me, it just lacked the same wow factor as some of your better performances, I also must mention the p word again, predictability, I know that going too indie isn't everyone's idea of mentoring but even going for not just as mainstream artists like Nerina Pallot (look at most of the tracks on Year Of The Wolf) and some of Corinne Bailey Rae's album tracks would be much more interesting than songs that we've heard covered loads of times. Yuli Minguel Yuli, your raspy tone means that I have to always look hard for acts to fit your voice as if they don't fit your voice, it can end up being a bit underwhelming. Thankfully, this week I tried to get a bit of rasp in my song choice for you, you really add your own flair to every performance you give and this was no exception, I adored it, you really did loads with the performance and it was a great vocal, well done, everyone needs to vote Yuli! |

Miss Fitz
Hello and welcome to the predictability factor. Last week we said we needed some risks from you with you asks and again this week it doesn't feel like you've taken a risk in my opinion. It was an alright song choice for the girls and suited their style but again we need to see a risk. Even if it's a small risk we need some sort of risk from your mentor |
