What's happening to new mainstream chart music?

I am really shocked at the sort of music we've had in our Chart this year, especially these:

Bom Bom Bom
Tulisa
Cheryl Cole - Under the Sun
Little Mix - Wings?!
Ne-Yo - Let me Love You - I used to like him, but now his music seems to similar to other male singers music, it's hard to differentiate between them... He seems to have converted to a Dance style of music, rather than the days of his older RnB music...

I miss the music we had from the 2000s Decade/ era..

90's and 00's were fantastic music wise.

Now if it aint a generic club banger or a vomit inducing love rnb track, then you aint getting in the charts. Shame.

How can be more angry about Little mix than Bom Bom? They are A million times better. Bom Bom is a ridiculous novelty record or is it because they are xfactor act?

I agree, it's not as good now as the mid-00s. Ne-Yo should go back to his older music, he's not good at doing Kylie Minogue-style songs.

Or maybe it's this thing called an opinion. Like, maybe the humour of 'Bom Bom' is more likable than an overwrought pep talk about wings and flying and woo yeah everything will be okay?

I just heard some guy called prof green and his song on radio one. It was so bad. Sounded like a crappy eminem ripoff, shit lyrics, hilariously put on angsty voice

Chart has been shit for years, how come you are only just noticing?

You know things are bad when this guy is taken seriously. Absolutely woeful.

I don't think pop is in an exceptionally bad state nowadays, but this year has been incredibly dull.

There's probably only been about 20 good songs on the chart. Even that might be pushing it.

If it hadn't been for the one hit wonders from Fun, Carley Rae Jepsen and Gotye...2012 would have been largely devoid of major hits.

Some Nights has been a big seller in the US and is doing well in the UK for fun. so I wouldn't say they're one hit wonders. Carly Rae Jepsen's new single sounds good too so once that's out she has every chance of having another hit. Gotye I'd agree with, though his album has sold well off of the back of one hit song.

I think this year has been better than last year in terms of the charts. It's been a pleasant change to have songs which stay at the top of the chart for 3 or more weeks, though admittedly between May & July that wasn't the case.

Professor Green is a really good rapper, and he's nothing like Eminem really. Apart from the fact that his song Read All About It uses a similar instrumental to Love the Way You Lie.

fun. and Carly Rae Jepsen are both currently in the top 10 with their 2nd hits. They're not one-hit wonders anymore, and I can see them having many more hits in the future (especially fun.).

This year has been dull for people that like listening to female electropop. But it's been a good year overall, much better than 2011. There's so much more variety now, and the hits are much more memorable, and there's not so much that sounds the same as last year.

The biggest issue is how the charts move so slowly now, but that was also a big issue in 2011.

I was more referring to them being newcomers and having only one mega-hit each this year, but you're right.

I guess I just find this year dull because the big pop acts are MIA (Nicki Minaj and the dregs from Rihanna and Katy Perry's albums didn't cut it) and Lana/Marina didn't get the success they should have.

There have been some good songs in the charts this year but a lot of rubbish too. I couldn't believe that awful Bom Bom "song" got No 1. Have some people no taste? I tend to listen more to quite a lot of music that isn't in the charts or wasn't commercially successful.
