I struggle to see how you stating you
have an iPhone and Stiggles saying "I could afford an iPhone but I choose not to" are really any different. Surely they both point towards a similar level of affluence? For the record, I've also said in the past that I could afford an iPhone but choose not to buy one - it's always in response to a once-common Apple-owners comment about how Android is the "poor man's iPhone" or how every Android owner is just jealous because they couldn't afford an iPhone. I haven't looked back through every one of Stiggles's comments but I'd imagine they're posted in a similar vein.
In terms of NFC, I love technology and especially mobile technology. I am genuinely excited by developments in the mobile field, and think NFC has a lot of benefits. I'd be happy to use NFC on my phone in a work environment instead of using my ID card, and I use it often to transfer stuff between my Nexus 4 and 7. But for payments... I just don't see the point on a phone. Like most people, before leaving the house I check I've got my keys, wallet and phone. Being able to pay by phone offers no extra convenience for me as I've always got my wallet (and hence my credit and debit cards) with me. Ability to pay by phone wouldn't mean I could leave my wallet behind, since I'd still want to be able to draw cash out if I needed it (so I need my debit card), be able to pay for things with cash (and notes go in my wallet), or be able to prove who I am (so I need my driving licence). Not to mention the multitude of loyalty and membership cards that also reside in my wallet, and - as others have already said - I'd far rather get my wallet out in a shop than my phone!
So payment by phone remains a novelty as far as I'm concerned, and since it doesn't negate carrying a wallet, I'll stick to using that for payment instead.
