I have not really followed the upgrades of the kindle, what is paperwhite exactly? Just a whiter screen? If so, then it is not the end of the world for me
It will turn up here eventually - or when they upgrade it next...Amazon tend to launch things in the US first and we get it later on...although it allows them to iron out any bugs first!

It's a touch with a higher pixel count screen and built in light, which means I can justify the upgrade.

I really want them to do colour e-ink”
I'm gonna upgrade to the touch. It would have been nice to have the paperwhite, but my kindle keyboard is 2 years old now. I find the resolution on my current kindle fine and can just buy a lighted cover. Maybe in 2 years there will be colour e-ink and I'll
upgrade to that.

Ive got a case with built in light tbf but I can't justify getting the touch when i have a keyboard but paperwhite is a big enough step up
I wonder about battery life of paperwhite. They are using some internal light which will influence it. How much is the question. I'd like it to be optional, I prefer a longer battery life to whiter screen. I am perfectly happy with how it is now.

Depends on the size of the battery – they could have got a bigger one to compensate.

Ah right cool. Well my next upgrade will be colour eInk there doesn't seem to be any point to upgrading now as my Kindle 3G (or Keyboard as it is called now) is perfectly fine and has speaker/headphone jack and lots of space.
I just hope they do an non-touchscreen version of the colour eInk Kindle. Because I really don't like the idea of touchscreen.

Amazon quote 8 weeks at 30 minutes per day, so 28 hours continuous use.
Just watched the video clip for the paperwhite on US amazon.
It looks great, especially the built in light.
I've also got the old keyboard kindle but would definitely upgrade to this.
I suspect they (amazon) just declined to talk about it at this time. Just like they did not talk about Kindle Fire outside of the US and that came - hopefully the PW will not take a full year.
There was a report several months ago that a problem in the manufacturing could delay the launch - it didn't but could well have put back non-US launches.

The Kindle Touch wasn't available outside the US when it first launched. It took 5 months before becoming available here, so the Paperwhite will probably arrive some time early next year.

What features will the new one have, apart from the white and slightly glowing screen that is worth me waiting 4/5 months?”
The glowing white screen would do it for me.
I have to switch over to my iPad to read at night so I don't keep husband awake. I have tried the clip on lights but don't find them very effective (they were from Poundland though).

They don't actually launch in the US until October 22nd, but I'm sure within a day or two of launch we'll find out if they can be used here with a uk account

It's released on 1st October. 22nd October is the date if you order it today as there is a waiting list now.
I've bought the touch. It is a good enough upgrade for me. It would be nice to have the built in light but I have the lighted cover and a kandle attachable light and to be honest they were adequate for me when I was using the kindle keyboard.

Agreed! I am definitely waiting for the paperwhite to be released here - well, hoping it will be - the Kindle Fire would add little to my existing Kindle, it seems to me, as I now already have a tablet as well.
