I mean, he is the longest serving character and one of two EE originals. For me, he is a fantastic character and there are always s/l with him because he is so well rounded! And he is an EE legend too!

But some people (esp during the time where he went in circles) won't think the same. But would EP actually do it? I heard that BK wanted to axe Ian but was stopped by someone higher up. (I suppose that's why the Beales have been completely sidelined.

No. They wouldn't dare. Along with Dot and Phil.

Well, tbf June will have to retire soon so either let her resign when she wants or let her go while the character is still worth watching.

I don't see them axing June Brown either, I think she'll be the one to decide when Dot leaves.

i personally hope that she isn't axed either; only if it was for June's sake.

Mind you, I have the impression Dot isn't coming back and so the non exit they gave her surprised me, in case she never did return. Jane Clarke went on a temporary break and got a Julias theme!

I dont think they will and i hope they dont.
Imagine they axe Ian but keep the likes of Tyler... (my reaction -would be like a volcano erupting)

If that happened, the BBC would have hell to pay.

I remember when Jean was axed, the charcter was given a reprieve as so many fans were annoyed. I wonder if they would do the same for Ian (probably not BK from what I have heard)

Luckily, BK will never be EP again so we can rest easy. I'm sure future EPs will have more sense than to axe Ian Beale. I can indeed imagine a huge outcry is that were to happen.

and that's not taking into account the cast reaction if Adam was sacked

No wonder why Bryan Kirkwood ruined the Beale family. I never knew he was planning to axe Ian :O

On another thread, someone mentioned Martha Longhurst being killed off to show that the EP wasn't afraid.

What if some EP like Kate Harwood (who totally ruined Pauline) or Louise Berridge ( who did pretty much the same thing by axing Mark Fowler) tried to do the same to Ian.

Using Berridge as an example, she wasn't afraid to axe Mark: a long running, popular and original character. And she wanted to axe Pauline too (and apparently Pat though has since denied that)

No, Adam has been with the show since it started and there is no way he would be axed.

BK thank god is gone and never got his wish..

never happend

In January 2003, Mark's doctor tells him that his body is rejecting the medication he is using to prolong his life and put off the onset of AIDS. He soon accepts that he is going to die, and decides to leave Walford rather than let his family see him endure a slow and painful death. He makes a tearful farewell to his family and friends and rides off out of Albert Square in February 2003. News of his death reaches Walford in April 2004, and he is given a heart-felt send-off by the residents of Walford.

Mark's funeral was really sad. I'll never forget just how torn up Pauline and Martin were.

Thats what mean about Ian. What if an EP tried to do the same thing- axe an original, popular and still working character
