EE Jay
Anybody else think it's time Eastenders axe Jay? I think his character has definitely reached the end of the line now. Possibly a prison sentence to write him out. I find the actor who plays him very stiff and wooden. He's just very unconvincing.

Totally DISAGREE, Jay is the best young character on the show played by the best young actor in the show. There are lots of storylines for Jay and Jamie Borthwick has showed how talented he is...

I don't usually jump on bandwagons but he really is (IMO) an amazing young actor. He really makes you feel for Jay and believe the character -- something most of the young cast fail at (they're either too "stage school" precise or just a bit crap). He even out-acts much of the older cast. Put him in a scene with established actors and it's often quite electric and/or emotive -- Jay and Phil, Jay and Patrick, Jay and Shirley, etc.
EE producers would be idiots to get rid of him. So young and already so good... Imagine him with hard-hitting adult storylines in the years to come. /fangirl moment |

Disagree too. Jamie Borthwick, IMO, has proven himself as a competent young actor and potentially has a long future ahead of him in EE. As a result of Borthwick's acting, I find Jay to be a really interesting character, capable of great range. He's come a long way from the foul-mouthed little kid he once was.

Love Jay's human side and the fact that he's got a conscience, unlike a lot of the square. Jamie plays him really well.

Jamie is a great younger actor! He has shown Jay's guilt, grief, confusion, and vulnerability throughout the Heather murder and reveal storyline. He hasn't had much interaction lately with the younger cast members, but when he does he stands out, and when he works with older cast members he does quite well!

Absolutely no way, bosses need to see what a talent they have and start giving Jay a bigger role on the show, I would hate to see him go back into the background now the Heather story has concluded.

I can sort of see what the OP is saying. I too wonder how he can sustain a long term role in the show given what has happened. At best he's just going to be used as another unfortunate character much like Billy, nothing will go right for him, it will be grief and sad storyline after another as this is what he excels at.
After a while this kind of story and character becomes very tedious and monotonous and viewers will get bored very quickly if that is the route they take with him. He's a decent actor, I wouldn't go overboard with the praise, Josh Pascoe was the real star of the Heather storyline and they were quick to axe him so it wouldn't surprise me if in a few months they write the character out, either temporarily or permanantly. |

I disagree that they should get rid of him but I do think yhat the writers have backed his character into a corner with the hev storyline. He will need a pretty good new storyline to make him a long ter characyer

Agree. He's a boring character played by an actor whose abilities extend only to looking moody/depressed. Dead wood, get rid.

He isn't jumping into bed with all the teen actresses, doesn't drink a lot and doesn't get into random fights. How bpring.
No,seriously, he doesportray the troubled kid well, is a good actor and to be fair, when was the last time he had a reason to play happy? He came in EE after just having lost his mother, then his granddad abandoned him, after that there was the gang-stuff, with a dad who at first did not do a very good job at parenting, always running after Dawn instead of being there when Jay needed him. Just when the new family unit started working out (I loved how Dawn reacted to the thugs mother just prior to the trial, the lady is well fierce!) his dad got killed and Dawn wated little time before she decided to go for Gary instead, being all too happy for Jay to no longer be her stepson but move in with Billy instead. Then that family fell apart when Honey filed for divorce and left with the kids. After that he found out what Billy's part in Jase's death was (no matter how many of us would have done the same thing, try explaining to a kid: I was there and hid, while I heard them kill your father and did not attempt to help in any way, not even by trying to contact the police or ambulance before it was too late). It has been crystal clear Abi loves/loved Jay, but Max did not want him around, so Jay would not have felt too secure there for a while. Phil took him in, but that has never been a stable home, he watched the whole stalker thing go down and then witnessed Heather's murder and Phil was like: whatever, just cover it up, can't lose my son, without even thinking twice about how it may have affected his other "son". Then he got thrown out by Phil, as well as Billy, Shirley is not to understanding, Lola wanted nothing to do with him anymore at first and Abi is not too understanding either. Obviously she was right to take the chance she was given and go to where ever it was she went, but fr Jay, she was the only good thing left. Then the minute he got things sorted and was with Lola, more or less, being content with that, that had to be when Abi came back and threw it all into turmoil once more. It wasn't her fault, she did nothing wrong, but it didn't help Jay's state of mind either. If all those things happened to me, in just a few years time, I'd be moody alright!!! There is just one little thing that EE might want to pay attention to: This youngster has had nothing but misery since he arrived. Be carefull not to turn him into a tragic hero, Ronnie style. Cut him a break somewhere, like Abi taking him back and Lexi not being his, allowing him to be an uncle, rather than a teenage dad who is not with the baby-mama. And to be cleared of the charges, due to being bullied into covering up, so he can safely enter Billy and Lola's place, without having to hide every time someone from social services turns up out of the blue. |

No Way! I like Jay, Jamie has made the character his own!
She proved to be a good actor when he was young! thats why he won an award for best young actor a few years ago! The Writers can do a lot of things with him! but writing him out would mean a mob starting at the BBC ![]() ![]()
