Gloria Price - They're trying to make her Blanche II
People say they were trying to make Sylvia the new Blanche. Sylvia is so different from Blanche. Gloria seems to be a carbon copy of Blanche. I keep imagining how much better her lines would be delivered by Maggie Jones.
Sue Johnston is great - I'm just not buying Gloria yet, but then again I'm STILL trying to accept Stella. Maybe Stella is the problem. |

For me Blanche a legend, her one liners were hilarious and she was just a great character. So far Gloria been ok, but sometimes it seems forced and i agree a carbon copy of Blanche.
Maybe once Gloria settles in, my opinion might change. Miss Blanche, she'd have a lot to say at that dinner table (with Ryan/Tracy)

I can't help thinking that too.
That being said, I don't reckon it's fair to compare Gloria to Blanche. Blanche is an irreplaceable Corrie icon. Gloria only arrived last week. It's early days but she has great potential and Sue Johnston is brilliant. |

I really like Gloria so far. I thought she was going to be a steoreotypical, 'hard-faced', fiesty character but she's a lot softer and is much more human/believable than I thought she was going to be.
Nobody is ever going to be Blanche, we know that and the producers know that so I don't think they'll ever try to re-create Blanche. Characters can and will have some similarities though without the intention of them being like X, Y or Z. |

They've done well in subverting expectation with Gloria.
Who'd have thought she'd be all pally with Karl? |

Hmm... well, I love Sylvia but can't really enjoy Gloria. I don't know why. I was so looking forward to the great Sue Johnston joining the cast but it just feels like it's fallen flat somehow. Mind you, I'm not writing her off just yet - let's see how the character develops. The only thing I really don't like about Gloria so far is that crap fake wig they've given Sue to wear.
![]() By the way, Sylvia (to me) really does seem to be Ena Sharples reincarnated - I don't get the Blanche comparison here. Gloria does seem a lot more in the Blanche mould than Sylvia, but no-one will be able to fill Madame Hunt's shoes, that's for sure! |

I loved Sylvia as well, she made me laugh. Is she ever coming back?

![]() I'm hoping Gloria gets better as the weeks go on... at the minute it just feels as if they're chucking too many stories at her and not letting her character develop naturally. This is where the distinction between her and Sylvia lies - Sylvia has been allowed to grow as a character slowly and gradually. |

Yes, she returns from America early next year according to Phil Collinson's DS interview.

I just wish they wouldnt have made her so intefering from the get go.
Shes invited Karl to Stellas party. She chucked Bettys hotpot ![]() out who in their right mind would throw away a fridge full of food. She was practically firing Tina over the Kirsty incident. Shes telling everyone that she delivered the baby and Marcus just stood there. OHHHHHH and the worse thing being horrible to Rita Roll on when Sylvia returns from her errand of mercy ! she will bi*ch slap Gloria from one end of the street to the other
