HO - Does Brendan Brady have connections with the IRA?
Scanlan told All About Soap of the flashback scenes: "They reveal why Brendan's the way he is - it's the missing piece of the jigsaw puzzle.
"Ever since he arrived in Hollyoaks two years ago, there have been questions about his murky past and now we'll get the answers. The truth is shocking and brutal." He said: "Let's just say that what Cheryl sees Brendan doing is so dark it changes everything between them. Cheryl would never report Brendan to the cops, but she's so disgusted that she disowns him. I'm not sure their relationship can ever be repaired." Discussing the big explosion featuring Brendan at the end of the series, Scanlan added: "I don't think it would be a fitting way for him to go. He needs redemption - he needs to sacrifice himself. You never know, though. This could well be where the journey ends." http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s1...hock-fans.html |

I don't watch Hollyoaks much but I do like Cheryl and Brendan, I think their brother/sister relationship is quite believable. I also thought their relationship with Lyndsey was as well.

No, he's not IRA. He laughed at Rhys once for suggesting the same, just because of his accent.
They're going to reveal something in the last episode of Later that happened to him in his childhood, something which has left him traumatised. He's already talked about how his Dad beat him and made jibes about being gay, so probably something to do with that. |

Brendan's not that old and the IRA have been on ceasefire for years. Unless it's do with dissidents.
Plus he's not from Northern Ireland he's from the Republic. Most people in Northern Ireland aren't terrorists but even less would be involved in the Republic as most people in the Republic aren't that bothered about Northern Ireland. I'd be very surprised if it is an IRA storyline. |

Cheryl's NI but Brendan has a definite Southern accent. Not sure what the back story is on that.

Thanks cyrilandshirley.
I can't see it being a terrorist storyline. Don't think Hollyoaks would want to be accused of portraying all the Irish as terrorists. Obviously some are but most aren't! |

I did kind of think the same bout sexual abuse.
From reading spoilers to Hollyoaks Later he is involved in something with Joel but if something happened in his childhood to traumatise him I do suspect sexual abuse. Perhaps he moved to Belfast to get away from abuser? Guess we'll find out soon anyhow. |
