Depends what size of screen you want and if you want 3D or not.

Suggesting to anyone what type of TV to buy is a very subjective thing.

Personally, I like Panasonic plasmas but that's just me. What I will say is, make sure your TV is full 1080P to take advantage of SKY HD.

Good luck.

and having recently had experience with Samsung - make sure it has enough sockets of the sort you need. So glad I have my Panasonic again - two scarts, four HDMI sockets and more.

I don't think that necessarily follows with Samsung?
I've got a 3yr old Samsung 40" Full HD 5 series, and it's got 4 HDMIs and 2 scarts plus component etc. And I use all of the HDMIs.

But there does seem to be a trend on budget sets to drop the number of HDMIs for some reason?

I guess it's only your main set that's likely to have multiple boxes attached, and a budget set for bedroom or kitchen probably only has one or two things connected?

The reason is obvious - it saves money

But as you also said, for a bedroom set (or one where you don't use many external units) it would be fine.

They are simply switches, and switch between the different sockets.

But it's more expense, and a clumsy solution over buying a decently specified set in the first place.

This of course assumes you want (or need) more HDMI's, but it is the coming thing, SCART is all but obsolete

SKY HD is not full HD so why would a Full HD TV benefit.

Sky HD IS full HD, it's 1920x1080 - so a Full HD TV would benefit just as much as for any other source. However, to get any benefit from a Full HD TV you have to view from even closer than an HD Ready one,

Luxor is just a badge on cheap sets, usually Vestel ones - in fact Luxor might now be a badge used directly by Vestel.

I dont know Nigel, how can HDMI hubs be simply switches as you put it?

I do however agree that the best option is to have a set with enough HDMI sockets on it in the first place, but this wasnt really an option when we purchased the older, smaller 23in Sony as most sets of that vintage, especially anything less than a monster LCD/Plasma only had single HDMI sockets.

I like HDMI, far better than any scart connection - even for SD, and without the build issues either eg weight of cables, size of cables/connections, but even so i do happen to think that the current push to phase out Scart is not entirely a natural evolution.

A three port 'hub' (as you call it) simply switches one of the three inputs to the single output to your TV.

Why would that not be called a switch?.

Even monster ones did, a single HDMI was almost always all you got - but you got multiple SCART sockets though.

As time moved on though, more HDMI's were added, and SCART's removed.

HDMI is fine for HD, otherwise there's little point - and SCART certainly auto-switches FAR better than HDMI, even with CEC, does.

But we can't live in the past HDMI is the future, and SCART is heading the way of VHS and DVD recorders.

The main problem with HDMI is recording from it. With scart it was easy. With HDMI it requires more gadgets....
