like cloud storage and dnla streaming to Tvs ?
I'll be up front, I am one of the biggest haters of apple there is but all the people who have got apple devices are generally not technical tell me that stuff 'just works'. no need to install extra bits and pieces and I think airplay is a bit more then dnla (maybe it isn't). And cloud storage allows pics to appear on the mac at phone minutes after you have taken the picture (not saying that is a good thing).

With android sometimes you have too much choice, if you want a video player there are 20 to choice from. If I want to do xyz then yes of course I can do it, but I have to install something else, or root my device or do something else. All of which I am happy to do but things that most apple owners won't have a clue.

That's one reason I'm finding it hard to decide between the two, I've never owned a tablet before and don't want to find later I've bought the wrong one as it's a lot of money to pay. I think the Nexus is going to be more suited for me as there seems to be more choice of apps compared to Amazon.
Difficult to say, there is plenty of apps on amazon already ready but then again there is plenty missing. Also don't know if you will be able to load non-amazon apps. Also rooting may well be a problem.

It will need to emerge quickly if there is an iPad Mini launched in October at a keen price – maybe around £200. I’d expect them to fly out the doors.
There is zero chance of Apple releasing the iPad mini at £200. I'm so convinced of this that if they do i'll wax my balls!

I still believe that the iPad mini will replace the iPad 2 in both line-up and price. There is simply no way that Apple will forego their massive margins and compete on price.

But I can get my pics to appear instantly on my machine at home too

Dropbox has an auto upload photos
Google+ has an auto upload photos

Both of these work on ANY PC (or Mac). Im not limited to Apple to Apple relationships.

Don’t think who you replied to said it was not possible on a PC – just that it’s a simple, more seamless process without using software from different companies.

One thing Apple can do it have everything working together and have the same user interface between everything which for a lot of users is a big bonus as all the software works the same way together and I don’t think anyone else can offer that…and it is important to some people.

You don't need to have software from different companies.

If you have a Google account (which to get the most out of Android you need) then you have a Picasa account. You can have photos you take on your phone auto upload. If you install Picasa on your computer it will automatically sync everything (including the photos already on your PC if you want, which then become available on your phone). Just like, to have iCloud work on a Windows machine, you have to install iTunes.

And to run Picasa you need Windows - so a different user experience and does not come already setup...which is what I was saying about everything with Apple being altogether and ties in neatly

I think that the fact remains that all these tablet devices have very limited memory in comparison to PCs of whatever flavour. Unless you're the owner of a very limited amount of media automatic syncing is never going to work successfully and cloud storage is going to be inadequate at best.

Sure it is. sync new stuff to cloud. get cloud storage to be at a healthy amount. Download from cloud as needed. I have LOTS of photos.

The kindle fire seems fairly locked down to Amazon. like many things this is great if you live in the US but, as is often the case, not so good if you live in the UK.
Unfortunately the same is true, albeit to a lesser extent, with the Nexus 7. You can get away more comfortably with only 8GB or 16GB storage in the US because you can whack 20,000 songs in the cloud with Google Music; you can buy films and TV shows and keep them in the cloud until you want to watch them; etc. Over here, with neither cloud music nor TV/film purchases (only hiring, with a finite expiry time), we can feel the pinch of limited storage much more easily, where you wouldn't with a 64GB iPad or even being allowed to use a 32GB microSD card.

It will be interesting to see what storage options the iPad mini, if such a thing exists, comes out with.

not sure I follow..... everything gets dumped in the cloud without me doing anything. Available on all my devices from anywhere.

Anyone with the nexus 7 should really do the workarounds to get Google Music storage. Just use a proxy to sign up, then after that it all works fine from the UK.

i agree that syncing to the cloud from a pc automatically is straightforward but plenty of storage space is required - not cheap.

I'm thinking more of downloading media automatically from the cloud to devices like ipads, nexus etc. and the need to keep within 8, 16 or 32GB.

I think that it would be much less hassle all round to be able to connect a portable hard drive via usb rather than continually uploading and downloading to/from the internet. Internet at home is fine via wifi but not so reliable or unlimited via 3g and hot spots elsewhere. If you need to be at home to access your media it kind of negates the benefits of having a portable tablet!

In practice though, how often are you away from home and think "oh I need to view this video" without warning? Video is about the only media where this might be an issue; viewing/downloading photos, books and music from the cloud on the move is absolutely not an issue. I don't need to be at home to access any media.....

For vids, just put a few locally if you're going on a long journey, job done.

It doesn't exist, wasn't announced today.

The early leaks were just to dis-rail the Nexus tablet.

As said next month is likely.

According to the app's page on Google Play:

We are currently testing support for the Jelly Bean operating system on the Galaxy Nexus; we hope to release in the near future following successful testing completion. In the meantime customers who choose to upgrade to Jelly Bean will not be able to stream content through the Sky Go app until the operating system can be fully supported.
So doesn't support Jellybean at the moment. I don't know if it uses Flash or not - if it does then it won't work on the 7 as Adobe aren't making Flash available for it.

I still doubt it, something as big as the ipad mini would have been announced at this event. It's not something that's going to pop on the website suddenly. Not Apple's style.
