O2 do as well but only for upgrading customers and again you will be paying through the nose for an iPhone on a 12 month plan (prices for a 16GB iPhone 4S at the moment range from £49.99 to £239.99 on a 12 month plan ranging in cost from £72 to £39 a month)

I'm just waiting to see what ideas they have stole and classed as their own innovation, and no doubt the media will see it and act like Apple have invented it *sigh*

I really don't understand why people pre order the iPhone before they know what it looks like or how it performs, that's idiotic if you ask me. I love Samsung Galaxy phones and will always get galaxy phones, but I wouldn't go and pre order the Galaxy S4 before I know everything about it.

Ah I see. I have seen people on the Internet saying that they have already pre ordered it so I just assumed you could. God knows why they say they've pre ordered it then.

It is extremely unlikely to support 4G networks in the UK, as we use a different frequency band to the US.

Expect the 5S to support UK 4G!

Considering more markets use our bands than the US bands, it isn't that unlikely.

True, that was six months ago though, and a bit different from the iPhone since mobile networks are sort of the iPhones 'thing' vs. just an option with the iPad.

This chip that they are talking about putting in the iphone, enabling you to pay for items in shops using your phone...has this been done on other phones? If so, how does it work?

That's NFC and has been done in a few Android phones. I will be surprised if it is put in to the iPhone.

Basically its an NFC chip, like the sort in your debit card if it lets has contactless payments. (as seen in Pret, Macdonalds, etc)

VISA used it with Galaxy S3s in the Olympic Park. The good thing is that the now phones have the hardware in it they will be able to use future solutions.

http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-...axy-s3-1091547

The bad thing is that, as yet, there are very few/no software options available to use this in the UK right now.

Also, unfortunately, most solutions seem to rely on using your phone as a pre-paid debit card, so you add money to the phone, then that is deducted when you purchase something, rather than coming directly out of your bank account.

Google have a solution running in the US but it doesn't work with UK cards I believe.

In the meantime, there are other alternatives which don't use NFC. Paypal is pushing a barcode solution (code appears on your phone screen which is scanned) and Starbucks also let you do this with their own phone app.

They have had it in a lot of other phones for a while although there has only been a trial at the Olympics with the Galaxy S3 with some select people (some athletes etc), so but we should be seeing banks implementing it soon (can't wait as I don't always carry my card or wallet).

Earlier this week, Everything Everywhere (i.e. Orange and T-mobile), Vodaphone and O2 announced they were working on a joint venture to allow mobile payments; it has just cleared the EU competition commission.

and orange have it up and running fully with the S3 now apparently:

yes, but they'll cripple it so that only the 5 will have the latest features. Like they did with Siri and the iphone 4.

there are rumours that by searching the apple website you can tell what features will be launched. I think the method has been debunked, but not before a few features have been ruled out:

As I said in the thread you started on the subject a few days back, going off previous releases of major versions of iOS the golden master will drop today and is installable by anyone if they know where to look. It will probably be released properly next week
