EE: Bring back Vanessa!
soapnut
12-09-2012
From BK's giant catalogue of errors came a great creation, a disposed of character with great potential, Vanessa Gold. Zoe Lucker, a fantastic actress, wasted and criminally underused should make a dramatic return. However, I doubt she would after the way her character was treated. With Tanya and Janine due to disappear for a while, it would have been a perfect opportunity for Vanessa to waltz back into Walford and cause some mayhem! There was so much more left to explore, the scope for her is wide open. I would love to see her return, Lorraine Newman should be on the telephone as we speak! The now infamous and spectacular 'Bubbly in the fridge' scene is testament in itself that Vanessa could be a truly great and memorable character. I really want it to be her that Max is visiting and taking money to! Bring her back please!

Vanessa will soon be visiting Jane Beale and Sarah Hills up in Scotland so a return is unlikely.

I think she has had her time and run her course . However I do agree she is a good actress and Bubbly in Fridge was legendary

I never thought of that! Yep, that would be great.

Please let her come back. Her OCD and bad relationship with her parents was never addressed and I didn't buy her story about Jodi's father. Max and Tanya have annoyed me with their smugness and callous indifference to the people they have hurt in their obsession with each other. Greg and Vanessa were no more than collateral damage to them. It would do them good to have to encounter one of the people from their recent past on a regular basis and learn that people aren't disposal. Vanessa was also a much better mother to Lauren and Abi than Tanya ever was. It may be unrealistic but if Vanessa does return I hope the writers find some way to rekindle her relationship with them.

Brilliant character and one of the reasons I started watching EE again - after 20 years in 2010. She had masses of potential but was wasted. Her character was finished by the Moon nonesense. There's nothing to bring her back for other than a revenge plot against Max and that would limit her future anyway.

Zoe Lucker is now in Waterloo Road for the forseeable.

I wasn't aware that Zoe had taken a role in Waterloo Road as I stopped watching after Karen left. What as shame, EE missed a trick with Vanessa and it's their great loss. I'm sure they will continue to rely on wheeling out ancient characters in the hope for viewers.

Make her the new landlady of the Vic with a new husband and his kids. The look on Max's face would be priceless.

I wasn't all that sold on Vanessa tbh, probably because she was from Kirkwood's era of the show (which was the worst ever IMO).

That said, the actress was pretty ok though and she possibly had more potential up her sleeve in terms of her character Vanessa than she was afforded for her time in the show. I think Zoe was just unfortunate to be hired by Kirkwood, as his team did very little with her character in the end and the way she was written out from the show (at the same time the infamous Eddie Moon left) went virtually unnoticed, almost to the extent that she was never a part of the show in any capacity at all!

I agree entirely, Kirkwood was the worst thing ever to happen to EastEnders over all other producers, he completely ripped the heart out of it and stole it's identity!

Zoe Lucker was treated appallingly and her character just wasn't given a chance, a solid storyline or even the opportunity to bed in, whereas we were all being fed the goon family and other dummy characters until we were sick! It was a great shame and a huge loss for EastEnders.

well looks like in the minority here but i couldnt stand vanessa, she was a caracature and everything about her really grated

the way she just latched onto men for money. those white suits. that ridiculous hair! only cora can get away with such big hair

She was written extremely poorly so the overall reception to her character wasn't warm. Zoe Lucker was fantastic in Footballers Wives and Bad Girls (as Tanya), she was perfect stalwart material for EE had she been given the opportunity and the material.

Vanessa didn't fit in the show imo. Zoe Lucker is a brilliant actress but she wasn't right for the show.

The producers really wasted a great opportunity there. If they'd bothered to focus on her character substantially, imo Vanessa could have been one of the modern 'A-list' characters. Zoe did the best she could with such a poorly-developed character anyway; I never once thought 'Tanya Turner's in EastEnders'.

Agreed! I haven't watched Waterloo Road for a bit so don't know when she was/is in it but DS announced it a while back so some point in this series she will be in it.

Totally agree about EE. They wasted her and a few others along the way. One of the reasons I've given up watching it as the existing characters just go around in circles and are unlikable with few redeeming qualities. If Vanessa returned to EE I probably would tune back in to see her but sadly I don't think it will be anytime soon.

As Jane Beale, as we shall continue to call her, is an alcoholic in Waterloo Road, there's potential for another "bubbly in the fridge" scene!

I absolutely loved the character and was disgusted by the neglect she got!

I mean the OCD storyline would have made amazing viewing if handled correctly!

There is no chance of a return after the way they treated her!
