I cannot believe people actually vote for a 'green party'!!
Meh, I can't believe people vote for a party that are openly racist and homophobic.

I completely agree. These past few months have been one long publicity campaign for UKIP. The media have essentially turned UKIP from a political party into this weird cult like the Moonies. The only difference is that the Moonies actually make a little bit of sense when they talk.

The only good thing to take from this is that UKIP only won 27% of the vote, just 2% ahead of Labour. If people in this country are so obsessed about the EU (and subsequently wanting to leave it) then how come UKIP didn't win this election by a massive landslide? Also, the overall turnout was only 34%, so people in this country aren't as interested in the EU as UKIP and media like to make out.
I'm so disappointed that the hype is all for them, if the media ignored them they'd go away- I voted for the Greens and was so pleased the got a seat in my area, they need some publicity as their policies are sensible and costed, and they actually have a manifesto that doesn't look like it was written 40 years ago- Its a very, very sad day for the UK imo, but as nobody really cares about the European Elections I hope their hopes are dashed next year and Farage looks more like an eijit than he already does
Another good thing to take from this is Jeremy Vine's graph showing the turbulent nature of UKIP's vote share over the years and how it always collapses during General Elections, so hopefully that's a trend that continues. Once the media got bored of Nick Griffin, we saw the demise of the BNP and UKIP will likely follow suit once the media latch onto something else and stop the Victorian freak show voyeurism!

I'm not a fan but they are not homophobic. Is the Scottish representative guy not gay?

If you think they are bad, what have France voted for?

I'm thinking of the sorts who said that gay people were causing the floods, councillor David Small who said gay people were "perverts" and Roger Helmer who said that being gay leaves most people over-70 uncomfortable. It might not be party wide but it's pretty endemic, and it's what I'd call homophobia.

The BNP had a Hindu star in election videos to prove they weren't racist. To quote Nick Griffin last night "We are a racist party".

Eh? They doubled their seats in the local elections and gained an extra MEP in the European elections.

Where is the failure in that?

Hardly good with their standings compared to the conservative and UKIP is it?

If we're talking politics...

I'm delighted with the collapse of Lib Dems, they truly deserve it.

UKIP winning in my area is annoying, but expected. It sure won't stay like that when it's the general election though, thankfully, cutting taxes for the rich ain't gonna fly round here.

Seems the UK wide political apathy doesn't apply here

Fecks me right off that people are more inclined to vote in X factor's got talent on ice than for REAL reality

33% turnout is pretty poor really.

Regarding the Lib Dems in the council elections, I feel bad for the councillors who are taking the brunt for decisions made in national government rather than the local government issues which they deal with as they are very different.

Horrified about UKIP however, and the results in France. Thank god for Sweden! They got the result right! Really chuffed for that women's party

I definitely agree that the Libs Dems are getting everything they deserve. If anything, I'm surprised they even managed to keep one MEP tbh. Total bloody sellouts the lot of them and it'll rightly take decades for them to even start to recover.

I think with parties like UKIP and the FN in France we have to remember that a huge percentage of the people that voted for them will have done so as a protest against the establishment rather than because they agree with their policies. God knows I'd never vote for one of the main three parties these days, and while I'm more of a Green myself I think it's unfair to brand people racists and homophobes for turning to the hard right at times like these. I think these results may well turn out to be a good thing as they should hopefully give national governments the kick up the arse they need.

Someone said that the line dancers should've whipped off their skirts, so I replied that Bucks Fizz have already copyrighted that!

True. It's just amazing how many "bad eggs" a "non-Racist" and "non-homophobic" party has.

Quite, they can be offensive in other ways too, like classy Janice telling people to Foxtrot Oscar.

Tbh all that really says is that she hasn't been media trained to within an inch of her life like politicians from the mainstream parties.

Exactly, politicians from other parties just hide it better...
