Well, so much for closest election ever! Conservatives are now forecast a majority. My constituency was won by conservatives (again) with over 20,000 votes more than second place. My Labour vote worked as they came second, big surprise.

Couldn't be more shocked that Ed Balls has lost his seat, he's a great bloke! Miliband can't do anything but resign without his wingman can he?

I'm shaking my head in despair

Balls losing his seat will be the best thing for Labour long-term. Whilst I don't really have anything against Balls (although his name makes me laugh!), he does get a lot of bad rep. Might help Labour redesign itself as the New Newer Newest Labour for the next general election

Clearly the people who voted for this government don't feel that they'll ever need the service of a police officer ... As a public sector worker I feel well and truly shafted already, it ain't gonna get any better!

Let's just remember the Tories didn't get a majority of votes, it's the frankly disgusting First Past the Post system that has put Cameron back in number 10 with a majority. We desperately need electoral reform and I've thought it for a long time.

How utterly depressing, as if the food banks weren't crippled enough already. So much for my optimism with my constituency - the Tory stranglehold has tightened its grip and actually gained another 8.5% on its majority, so I may as well assume I'm now in a safe Tory seat.

They lost just 0.3% here even after the last had to be deselected she was so bad... It really isn't a fair system...

UKIP almost 4m votes - 1 Seat
SNP 1.5m votes - 56 Seats
GRN 1.2m votes - 1 Seat

How is this fair??

The whole system needs overhauling from the ground up. The only hope now is a national revolution when the 12billion cuts start rolling out, because you can be damn sure it won't be the pockets of the 1% that get hit!

Its nt its rigged to keep the establishment, neither is the two main parties mud slinging and slagging off any legitimately standing contenders , that is not democracy. get rid of all of them and adopt the icelandic syetem or swiss. The lot of them need jailing , get rid of royal and jhouse of lords too. A pack of deepy currupt evil underbelly of life

I think we should all make our own political party lol! United Kingdom Eurovision Party. I'm sure Nige would love that, well, it wouldn't matter now he's stepped down.

So much for the induction of a new era of multiparty politics.

I think the telling thing now will be to see if the Conservative majority veer off to the right now they don't have to worry about the Lib Dems. In retrospect it seems like they might have played quite a decent role helping to keep the Tories in check, but now they've suffered for it and the Conservatives have benefited.

It all seems a bit pointless now to vote for a minor party.

It is unlikely that any party will ever get a true majority of the votes. Even if we had PR it would be up the parties themselves to pair up and ultimately outside the control of the voters.

Be careful what you wish for.
Based on the votes tally
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/election/2015/results
we would have had a Conservative/UKIP coalition with a decent majority.

And we had a referendum on this subject in 2011 and the public rejected it 2-1.

AV is a rubbish alternative though and was only ever going to get support from the LD support at the time. There are far more players with a vested interest this time around, even Labour following the Scottish wipeout.

I'd noisily support a movement for proportional representation

Did anyone watch The Vote on More4 in the hour and a half running up to polls closing?

Starred Mark Gatiss, Catherine Jenkins and Judi Dench among many others, and was genuinely very funny. A lot more to laugh about than the actual result, anyhow.

Losing myself in Eurovision will be the order of the day to see me through methinks. My dad has been in hospital with that he thought was a trapped nerve in his back and having a bad reaction to the tablets the doctors had prescribed him with at the time, but the results of his ct scan came back this evening and it turns out he's got lung cancer. :/ So I'm sorry if I was getting a bit aggro in the Rehearsal Thread earlier.

Everything is kind of up in the air at the minute, but I can't really worry without having all the full facts. My best friend came round for a few hours this evening, so I'm in good spirits at the moment and watching the new set of 'not rights' enter the BB house to keep my mind from thinking.

I'm so sorry to hear that, Lisa.

I sort of know how you feel as my dad was disgnosed with liver cancer last year, it had already spread unfortunately. However, the good news is he was given three months to live at the time of diagnosis and he's still here, in good spirits, 8 months later, with no signs of slowing. In fact, the local hospice took him off their list last week as he is doing so well

Anyway, enough about me (although I do hope my current experiences have given you a bit of hope), I really hope you're doing ok, or as ok as is possible as a time like this. You and your family will be in my thoughts, stay strong

Edited to add - ESC is the perfect mind occupier

Lisa, I'm so sorry to hear your news, what a horrible shock for you all

You are right about how important it is to have the full facts, then you can support him properly

My thoughts are with you all, I will echo Mrs Checks though, ESC is perfect to keep you going until you know everything xx

Very sorry to hear that Lisa, wishing you and your family all the very best. Cancer really is one hell of an evil disease.
