Its horrible, I keep putting it to the back of my mind as well whenever I can which just makes things worse as it just builds up more of a work load

I never once got stressed at university, but I hated it.

Not the course but I realised that I hated students, especially the ones who thought they were cool turning up smelling of booze with greasy hair and the same clothes on as the night before.

I got so stressed with uni I had to fake a break-in and a laptop theft to be granted an extension for my dissertation. Nightmare! I didn't know whether I was coming or going by the end of it...

I guess bbg can telll us if it is still the same, but...

The first year and especially the first semester can be a real shock to the system. Being on your own in a strange city is one thing, but also you have to work for and by yourself a lot more at Uni, you don't get fed the information as at school.
It takes a bit of time to adjust.

I used to work for Cardiff University a while ago. The first year is the hardest - the Uni would prefer you to drop out early so you don't waste your time and money, rather than later in the second or third year.

Once you get through the first year, things become easier.
Just hang on in there.

At my school we had to teach ourselves our A levels, one teacher decided to murder their mother and the school didn't replace them so we taught ourselves. Another just made Jewelry for sale therefore teaching us nought. So that aspect was not new actually, had more info than A Levels

What a delightful school you went to.

I know what you mean. I have a geography presentation to do in a few weeks, and speaking in front of any number of people just terrifies the shit out of me. I've thought of nothing else for nearly a week.

I actually found it the other way round. My first year was basically just a rehash of our 'Advanced Higher' course which I'd done at school so it was a bit of a doddle.

It really hit me when I went into 2nd and third year and had to actually work and do things for myself.

Still hated the students tho

I used to be a nervous wreck. Had to always ask to go first to get it out the way and couldn't hold notes as all you'd hear is paper rustling.

Thankfully got over it and it doesn't bother me anymore

As I said on the Waterloo Road thread our school was tame. If people think the storylines are beyond realistic think again

I never really had problems with talking in front of others, yet one on one I am shy.

For some reason I thought you were doing medicine. I'm doing International Development with Overseas Experience. Really can't wait to go to Africa.

I'm pleasantly surprised that the skills I learnt during my A Levels are actually proving useful (unlike my GCSE's ), just a bit tired of introductory modules and stuff. The degree I'm doing can encompass nearly every single subject on the planet at times and we seem to be hurtling through it at 500mph at times. A lot of it is really interesting, just tiring I suppose, especially since it's the first semester. Thanks for the kind words though.

I posted a while back about being offered a place to do a semester at Georgia Southern in America.

Well, today I was contacted and said my application to be a foreign exchange had been accepted (!) but now they've thrown a massive spanner in the works- they've said I could do Aarhus in Denmark instead of Georgia so I'm in a quandry.

Anyone got any experience of Aarhus (all I know is that it's like a shrunken Copenhagen and the Danish government will pay me to be there as they are in the middle of a PR whirlwind to turn Denmark into a global centre of higher education) or Georgia and can vouch for one or the other?

Being 1/4 American I'd say go to Georgia.
But being 3/4 European I'd say go to Denmark.

Your choice obviously.

That's what I'm thinking... and I'd be there for MGP (Copenhagen is only 3 hours away so I could make a day of it!)

I like the idea of going to America to study but probably somewhere a little more liberal than Georgia. The exchange officer will probably have a mental breakdown but over the course of the day my inherent love of all things Danish has been compelling me to switch and go there instead. I can't really speak much Danish but what better way to learn than actually living there (and the 250 Krone a month the Danish government will pay me is a big swing to!)

For some reason I just feel the day to day life in Denmark would be so much better.

As Amy said, your choice obviously.

And you'd be closer to a certain Norwegian member

Yeah, it would be less of a culture shock too, really!

And yes, my proximity to a certain Yummi poster would be a big contributing factor!

You know you're obsessed when the main factor in choosing your exchange trip is which eurovision national final you'll be able to go and see while you're there
