To be fair, Channel 4 promised us high quality drama when they axed it, and instead we're getting "The Toilet"- a documentary about a toilet in Croydon

I agree with bbg, I'm rooting for Hazel to win now. I still can't understand all the Gina love, she's spoilt, arrogant, bitchy, just comes across like an awful human being tbh.

Is anyone else excited to see who the new Doctor Who is tonight? I don't watch the show anymore but I used to be a massive fan before Matt Smith took over so I'm a little bit intrigued.

I hope they move away from the weird looking supposed sex symbols they've been casting recently.

I hope it's someone slightly older than Smith & Tennant. I also hope that if they pick a black Doctor it's because of their superior acting talent and not just for the sake of PC box ticking. |

I have to agree with this, The Doctor isn't supposed to be sexy and you only need to look at the first 7 incarnations to know that. Can you imagine girls getting all giddy over Tom Baker?
Nowadays, if the kids can't be distracted by something pretty to gawk at for five minutes, they'll be off flicking through the 100 other channels or wasting time on twitbook or off down the shop for their next hit of White Lightning or something like that...

The last Dr I liked was Ecclestone. I hope they go for either Peter Capaldi or David Harewood (not because he's black, but because he's a fantastic actor and has said how much he'd like to do it) My dream would be Idris Elba but I think he's a little bit too busy now. |

On a different note, does anyone else think the Twitter Silence protest has really misplaced values?
Rape Culture thrives because it relies on victims staying silent- so why then encourage that as a means of protest against rape/ threat culture? |

Now, a lot of well meaning but misguided North London journalists (Caitlin Moran et al) have started a #twiitersilecne motion, whereby all prominent female authors, intellectuals and broadcasters don't use their Twitter account for a day. To me, it seems at odds with what this campaign should be about- namely, naming and shaming perpetrators, showing that you will not be intimidated by threats and speaking out on issues such as this. Maintaining a "silence" just seems to be playing into the hands of the people who want to issue threats without any risk of a comeback. |

The woman who campaigned to get Jane Austen put on banknotes has been subjected to a barrage of Twitter abuse (mostly from sad little misogynists threatening to rape her) since the move was put through,

I also find it ridiculous there were to be no women on current banknotes when various economists that nobody would recognise end up on them. |

![]() There have been women on our banknotes in the past, there will be more women on them in the future. I don't get why putting Jane Austen on one now is suddenly a big deal, just like I don't get why there being a brief gap when there is no woman on any note is also a big deal. That being said, there seems to be a growing trend towards morons being highly abusive towards feminists on the net recently (I've seen quite a bit of it around gaming sites as well) so would much rather see something where the idiots get rooted out and publicly shamed and/or blocked from sites like twitter or youtube - as much as blocking is actually possible. |
