iPhone owner - Do I really need an iPad
I hope I've written this in the write section.
![]() I own an iPhone 4S and am very happy with it. My boss, who is absolutely gadget mad (owns practically everything that Apple have ever made ) thinks that I should get an iPad as well. I could afford to buy one, but wonder, do I actually need to buy one?

I would say that if you need to ask if you need one then you probably don’t need one.

Alan,
I suspect you're right, but what I think I really want to know is what does an iPad do that an iPhone doesn't do and would it be worth spending that amount of money. |

Whether or not you think that is worth the price is really only something that you can decide on. Personally for me it is too expensive for what it can. Would be worth looking at all the Android Tablets that are available as well. |

As previously stated it's all about the screen size!!
I am on my 2nd version of the iPhone and I love it but there are times when the screen is just too small. Whether for reading news apps, writing emails or watching films sometimes size does matter!! Beacuse of this I am looking at getting a tablet. Although I have found the iPad 3 a little in the opposite direction... too large a screen!!!! |

I have an iPhone 4S and a new iPad. I would say that I "need" the iPhone but "like having" the iPad.
I think the iPad is a great piece of kit but I could live without it, but couldn't without my smartphone. The bigger screen size is great, you can do proper web browsing without all the fiddly zooming, some games are much better for the larger screen. Also, taking photos on the iPhone then Photostream them to your iPad and it's great to look at them in bigger size. But where the ipad wins hands down is media streaming.- iPlayer, Sky Go watching movies etc. You just cannot beat it compared to an iPhone (which I used to think was fantastic itself until I started using the bigger screen). Also, the two devices work seamlesley together if you activate iCloud. My only gripe is that not all iPhone apps are universal and I refuse to pay again for an iPad specific app, but enough apps are universal that this is a minor complaint. |

media playback, book reading, web browsing and anything using a lot of keyboard input are MUCH easier with larger display. I don't think there are many must have iPad only apps

I've got an iPhone 3GS which I love so bought an iPad 2 and am a bit underwhelmed by it tbh, luckily my wife loves it so it gets used but I wish I'd waited and got a nexus or a kindle fire

In this case, size does matter IMO, I had an itouch first and then an iPad, and could not get over how different it is with a larger screen, but then again, it depends if you use the apps a lot, if you do then they look so much better on the large screen, films and tv programmes too, and its perfect for Skygo. I have a Blackberry for calls and carry my iPAd and mifi everywhere.

I have an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2 a d have to say I love my iPad I use it mainly for reading books watching tv in bed and web browsing but mainly at home. If going on a long journey would definitely use it. I don't need it but I've certainly got my money's worth out of it.

We went camping the other day and at the end of the day, before bed, I was able to let the kids watch "Puss in Boots" on my iPad from Sky Movies via Sky Go (tethered to my iPhone).

I have an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2. It just depends on what you'd use yours for.
I only really use my iPad to read and play games. She is not necessary but I still love her. |
