You know what, I give up. There are clearly people who are very anti apple on here, who whinge at apple for every single thing, while ignoring the fact that other companies do exactly the same. If you want to be that blinded and limit yourself in terms of what device you are willing to buy, that is up to you. Personally, I don't see the point of trolling about something just because it is made by apple.

When it costs £729 that's hardly a surprise.. What is, that people think nothing of it incredible.

But you cannot pick the most expensive model and then go "OMG its so expensive".
As I said, if that was the cheapest the iPhone was, then I would agree with your whinging. But it isn't. You can get an iPhone 5 for £200 less.

One last comment too - it isn't just about hardware. The software ecosystem on iOS is still a fair bit better. And of course, you have the app libraries people have already built up. Its great if an android device is £100 cheaper. But what is the point if you then have to spend £100 on apps that you had on iOS?

Its nothing to do with being anti apple ffs. Why do people keep spouting that absolute rubbish when called up on something or when someone disagrees with them. Its pathetic.

I would say the same thing if HTC charged £100 per 16gb, or Samsung or nokia etc etc...

What apps do you have? I have nearly a hundred, and only one cost anything, and that was £2.

Plus, of course, if you do but lots of Android apps when you come to change your phone there will be hundreds to choose from which will all work with your apps.
With Apple once you have paid for those apps you are, as you admit, locked into Apple.
Isn't that a good reason to switch to Android ASAP, before you buy lots of new apps?

I agree it is mental and no way would I pay that much.
Which is why I have the 16GB iPhone 4, and which is why I may be getting the 16GB iPhone 5 (if I will or not will depend on 4G contract prices and details from EE).

Also, hardly anyone does pay that much for the phone. The vast majority get an iPhone on contract rather than buying upfront.

Certainly seems like it. Considering the people whinging in this thread are specifically picking at the most expensive model, totally ignoring the two cheaper models.


But most other companies don't give you the choice of capacity, so you really can't say that.
And before you say about external storage - again you don't always get that.
So while I agree that £730 is a joke, I think its better that the option is there than if Apple just had a 16GB version available (which is basically what other companies do).


Personally, I don't have many that have costed much.
But I know people who have bought TomTom apps and the like, which cost a bit.
Office like apps aren't that cheap either (I think quickoffice is somewhere close to £10?).
It all adds up too.

And that doesn't address the other issues regarding apps and the whole ecosystem. Android has got a hell of a lot better, but its still behind. And Windows Phone is miles behind both android and iOS.

It is actually really annoying. I'd love a Lumia 920 as my next phone, but the lack of certain apps on Windows Phone is just too big of an issue for me. Its only been the last few months where I have been able to start considering an android device (again because of the lack of certain apps).

As I said above, at least apple give you the choice to buy a higher capacity device.
There are a hell of a lot of other smartphones which don't have any kind of external storage either, but don't offer the higher capacities.
So as I said, it is surely better Apple give that option. Or would you rather then just have the 16GB model?

Hmmm so what are these hell of a lot of models you keep quoting exactly? You've mentioned one x and? Let's not forget the one x comes with 32gb not 16 and for a huge amount less. However regardless of that I would only buy a phone with sd card support.

You seem to be convinced because the 16 is available its all good, as I said what would I do if I needed 64?

Ah but they do. Well most! The S3 can be had in either 16 or 32gb versions with option for external storage. No idea why HTC messed about though.


Tom Tom should be cross platform though which annoys me.

£529 is ridiculous for a mobile, 629 is stupid but 729?. I'm usually a fan of Apple and their products but I think the excitement around Apple product launches is going to come to an end soon.

The iPhone 5 might sell a lot but the perception in the general public/media is that the magic is starting to fade, give it a year or 2 more of these let downs by Apple and the hype will go.

I think the feeling is that the iPhone's have reached as far as they can go. What more can Apple add to them that millions of people will be willing to pay for year after year?. It's probably not Apple's fault, they kept meeting people's demands in the iPhone but it just seems like they have gone as far as they can. Just seems like we'll just get the usual slimmer/same price/lighter/better camera thing year after year from now on.

Here's what it comes down to regarding Apple's over charging. If the iPhone was still a unique device which was way ahead of the competition and eventhough 700 is damn expensive for a phone, you could make a case for them charging this. Now when there are more than enough phones out there that can do EVERYTHING an iPhone can do, what reason is there for someone to go for a bigger capacity iPhone than a phone with SD support, cheaper and does the job as well or better?

All I can say is that Apple have one helluva loyal fanbase!! But I think one day even the most die hard Apple fans will wake up and realize that aside from the marketing hype that makes you believe an iPhone is futuristic alien technology, that its actually inferior in many ways to other smartphones and if one actually bothers to do a little research better can be had for less money with a lot more functionality and far less restrictions and limitations put on them.

I don't know about you guys but I don't like big corporate companies trying to insult my intelligence by trying to sell me an overhyped under developed phone which offers nothing more than a slightly improved phone from a previous version but covered with marketing buzz words to big up standard features that aren't anything out of the ordinary. Add to that an over inflated price tag.

Never had a problem not being able to find apps. The standard Google Maps/Navigation works fantastically. I can even switch it on and program it by voice. Useful if you're driving somewhere you know but get lost or have to take a diversion. I can pull my phone out of my pocket, press the Voice Actions icon (Pannous Voice Actions, not the standard Google one) and say "Navigate to High Street Doncaster" or wherever and it will fire up the satnav and program in the destination and start giving directions.

I think Tom Tom are great, the best standalone satnav, but the standard navigation is just as good. I wouldn't bother installing Tomtom if it was free.

The Pannous app was the only app I paid for. The free version is virtually as good, the paid one is just supposed to be a bit quicker. Highly recomended, as good as Siri, better in some ways. For example you don't have to press the button every time you want to ask a question.
I can be sitting at a desk working out paperwork and have the phone sitting in front of me and say "What is twenty seven times sixteen and a half?", write down the answer and then ask the next sum without having to press a button again. With Siri you have to press the button every time.

My one gripe with the One is they had done away with the physical menu button, but they updated it recently so you can reprogram the Recent Apps button to be a menu button as well, so that's sorted.

But for most people 16gb is not enough and once you've bought it you cannot expand the memory. You can buy an S3 for around £499 with 16 gb of ram and stick a 64gb SD card in it. Getting more memory than an iphone 5 64gb for at least £200 less. Ridiculous especially when you consider that the S3 is a better phone.

End of line model, but works fine.

Even better when you can get the S3 for £400 in fact which with sd card is £300 less not far off half the price.

A 64gb iphone 5 is £729.

That's a difference of £299 for less space. So, several hundred pounds.
