Or, of course, you could compare like for like with your beloved choices.

APPLE iPhone 5, 16Gb - £529
SAMSUNG Galaxy S3, 16Gb - £499

Not a great difference to be honest.

Not forgetting that the S3 32Gb and 64Gb aren't even available in this country yet...

Except the Samsung can be bought for £430 new and comes with 25GB Dropbox storage for free. You can then add a 64GB MicroSD for £38 if you wish.

iPhone 5 with 16GB storage - £529
SGS3 with 80GB storage + 25GB Cloud storage - £470-£500

EDIT: The SGS3 32GB is available online for around £500.

I don't think many people are arguing that the entry level iPhone5 is not that much more expensive than the entry level S3, the point is that for approx £40 you can add 64GB of memory to the S3 and have more total memory than the 64GB that Apple are going to charge an extra £200 for.

Also, now that the S3 has been out for a while you can get them much closer to £400

Ah. I do have some books on my phone but most of them are on my kindle. I also have a lot more videos on my 16 gb (+ 32gb) tablet. I already have 3 devices to lug around so wouldn't want to get a dedicated media player to add to this although it wouldn't supprise me because when I first got the iphone 3G I thought I'd only need one device for all my content!

Pricing for Sim Free is confirmed now folks

16gb = £529
32gb = £599
64gb = £699

Sneaky Apple. 16gb to 32gb is an extra £70 but 32gb to 64gb is an extra £100. Scroll to the bottom http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/hom...iphone/compare

Yes, of course, people can't disagree with what you think.

Even if you don't think it is then someone else still can

I await the price of the S3 LTE 4G phone that is yet to be released in this country. More money for Samsung too though right?

Like i said, a galaxy S3 with a 64gb card takes it up to 80gb and costs several hundred pounds less.

Apple have always overcharged for everything.”

Fixed.

So the I-Phone 5 has an extra row of icons. That is a bit like saying to the wife that has been unsatisfied with the performance in bed, that you have had plastic surgery and got a 1 inch Penile enlargement !

There is a bit more to it than an extra row of icons.

Its 50gb it comes with.

In the US the 64gb will be the equivalent of £525 plus local sales tax at the current exchange rates.

I had the money put aside and was going to sell my 4S for the new model but after the launch I'm very disappointed and won't bother upgrading this time.

The lack of a 128gb model is a let down. Extra storage is far more important than games being able to run a bit quicker or a bigger screen.

Is that plus contract costs? If so, how much a month would you pay?
d2macreject
14-09-2012
That's the phone without contract. It's unlocked and you can use any network. Up to you If you go with contract or pre-paid.

In Oregon there is no Sales Tax so what you see is what you pay (as sales tax is added at the register in the US)

If you go to Apple US you can search contracts by
provider.

So we're being charged £200 more than the US for the same SIM-free phone? I'm lost for words...!

No... It's not available SIM free in the US yet. The US prices are based on a 2 year contract and exclude VAT.

UK prices include VAT, US prices don't as the rate varies state by state.

Add 8-10% to the iPad 3 US price and it's still cheaper.

Apple's US Site does actually give full prices for the iPhone 5. Listing the
64gb at $849.
http://store.apple.com/us/browse/hom...iphone/compare

That's £525 at current rates.
