That would a great move for BT - a big name plus he's generally a well liked and respected presenter.

His wife is expecting a new baby soon. Hence why he probably doesnt want to be constantly on the go travelling around the world doing F1. The BT job fits in nicely with this.

Depends if he is exclusive to BT or not. He may go freelance so he can work for both

In a similar way Clare Balding works for the BBC and Channel 4.

Jake and Clare have the same agent so quite possible.

I believe it the exclusivity element of his contract that he's negotiating on with the bbc, so essentially it'll give him more freedom to be freelance - hence he'll probably work for both. I think the been will go for that, he's currently earning £250k a year which, bearing in mind how much his stock has risen over the past few years, is dwarfed by the £2m package that Lineker gets. The BBC can't afford that kind of money in this climate so will probably let him go to earn some big bucks with BT, while maintaining a presence on the bbc.

This has now been confirmed by BT

Marc Watson, chief executive of BT Vision, said: "We are absolutely delighted that Jake has chosen to join our new sports channel to anchor our Premier League programming.

"Jake is a tremendously experienced and popular sports broadcaster and a fresh, young and innovative talent.

"He impressed us with his willingness to get deeply involved in the development of our live football programming and we took into account his track record of excellent presenting across many sports.

"He fits our plans for the new channel perfectly and we are very excited to be working with him."

BT has signed up BBC presenter Jake Humphrey to anchor its coverage of Premier League football, starting next season, on a £250,000-plus annual salary.

Humphrey, who recently presented part of the BBC's London 2012 Olympic coverage but is best known for fronting Formula One, has signed a four-year contract with BT starting in January.

A spokesman for BT said the deal was not exclusive and that Humphrey could continue to work for the BBC outside of his contract period.

Also, he'll be presenting on the sports channel which will be sold across all the main platforms - Sky, Virgin, YouView, talk talk - so they won't just be relying solely on BT Vision subscriptions.

just stating that BTvision have not really been the most popular service that Bt offers, even with all the customers they have on their broadband service, it have not really caught on, even the few they have got over the last year or so is only because BT knocked the price right down.

I presume Bt do intend to be in it for the long game, but then so did Ondigital.
Myself I am not bothered if it fails or succeed. I got everything I want video wise with netfliks at the moment.

but i do agree competition is good, well I would if it was not the fact that now people who want to watch all the games go to have two different services.

They will need to, because i don't think they will get the amount of people they need to make it pay to be honest, unless Bt are going to use money from their broadband and phone service to subsidise it.

You view may help a little bit and I am sure people getting faster broadband will help even more so. But to get Bt vision or what ever it will be called in the end, you still need to have BT broadband and Bt broadband is not the cheapest or the best to be honest.

So how many people will change their broadband service just to get sport? it is a risky idea that may fall over.

If it's anything like netflix then it'll contain mostly ancient films with a smattering of months old content. I cancelled before the free trail was up. Nowhere near as good as the BTVision film library but it's cheap which is the only bonus IMO.

Anyways - back on topic

Being a telecoms company first and foremost I wouldnt expect a fledgling TV service to be their most popular product

BT is a huge company with huge profits - this is no OnDigital

There's two different services for footie already

If BT stick this new service on Sky and show it in HD and on multiroom then I will be interested. I subscribe to see the football and rugby and have no interest in who presents it or any half time chat. I have BT infinity which is a brilliant service but would have no inclination to install any additional box and would not be inclined to watch any matches online either.
