The X Factor 7.5 million. 12.5 million it premièred with last year.

BC’s The Voice, despite getting off to a somewhat quieter start with its third season, managed to eke out a small yet significant win over Fox’s The X Factor premiere in head-to-head competition on Wednesday night. For the night, both singing shows averaged a 3.3 demo rating. But in their shared hour at 8 o’clock, The Voice scored a 3.3 to X Factor‘s 2.7. And in total audience, NBC outdrew Fox 10.7 million viewers to 7.5 mil. That said, The Voice was down 6 and 17 percent from Night 2 of its three-part premiere week. Across its two-hour opener, X Factor averaged 8.5 million total viewers and the aforementioned 3.3 rating, down from both Season 1′s premiere (12.5 mil/4.4) and finale (12.6 mil/3.8). In the 9 o’clock hour, the penultimate America’s Got Talent (11 mil/2.9) topped the back half of X Factor (9.5 mil, 3.8) in total audience but trailed it in the demo.

very sad indeed, the show was far better than the voice last night. However not sure that they can do much more. Probz just shut the show down now! and let the voice win

Yes, enjoy the Britney ride while you've got it. Because not only will she be gone, but I think the whole show may be after this year.

The Voice has taken over, although even that may see a hit if they air it too often and break up the current cast. Idol will continue to drag along I guess, since I think it likely will do slightly better against The Voice (which will start to show fatigue a mere few months from now going against Idol, so close after being on during the Fall).

The demo is actually quite good, and that's all that really matters. NCIS usually averages around 3.3 (give or take) in the demo and it gets on average 19-20m viewers a week. So it's not bad that it's about on par with a show that has more than double the viewers and is probably just as expensive, if not more, to produce (in it's tenth season with only one original cast member departure and their replacement's been there since season 3).

Disappointing, sure, but not the failure I suspect many people are going to claim.

It's bad because the demo is 1.1 lower than last year's premier. Obviously there would be a dip but with the claimed Britney effect, the drop is awful. The fact the Voice beat it in both share and total viewers is pretty big (especially as the third show was just thrown on last minute to compete).

I know, but last year it didn't have The Voice airing at the same time, so I won't see that as much of a concern unless things are much worse tonight

7,5mil? That is the saddest thing I've ever heard?!

The whole point of letting Nicole, Paula and Steve go was to increase the ratings BIG TIME

So, what does X Factor USA do? They hire Britney thinking that they will manage to get the numbers to 20million because it's Britney, b***h!

Well, guess what? THEY DIDN'T

Even if they wouldn't have had competition from The Voice, they still would not have managed to get 20mil. I think probably around the same as last year

So, what does that say?
That hiring damaged celebs don't work. The ratings for Season 1 were not low because of Paula and Nicole. They were low because people are tired. American Idol this year was around the same in numbers as Season one of XFUSA

Hard to imagine how X Factor USA will recover from this. Well hey, they can always change the time of their own show.....

These shows have had their day.... they should just accept that many people have had enough of them and that ratings are going to gradually slide no matter what they do

Shocking! I would have thought that Britney would have brought in at least some of the additional viewers they expected.

All in all the US XF is looking more and more like a bridge too far.

People are not stupid, though..... They want to see professional judges.

Just because her name is Britney Spears, doesn't mean that she is capable to judge others. This is a woman who lipsyncs every single performance she does. Why should we take her seriously judging singers when her own singing leaves a lot to desire for.....

Fox is stupid. They should have moved it straight away when they knew The Voice would be up against it.

I find it very difficult to believe that a series with this much social buzz had the viewing figures it did.

By social media standards, it was the number 1 talked about show of all time.

Rating as the number 1 episode ever for twitter comments, at 1.4m comments, to nearest rival American Idol's 514k, at number 5, for a Savannah audition.

Very strange.

I think the show will rise.

I totally get your points but I thought people would tune in just to see if she was a train wreck or not, never mind the judging!

Yep.

The viewers were split. I don't know why they thought it would be a good idea to go up against The Voice

I doubt the show will be gone next year, if ratings don't rise, which I think they will tonight, then they will probably make cut backs, get cheaper judges and try again. I remember last year the show was their biggest show at that time of year and apparently they don't have any other big shows.

NBC added the third show in a row after FOX had confirmed the premier for the X factor. Sneaky but sucessful

They didn't. Simon said months ago they agreed The Voice would be Monday and Tuesday and X Factor would be Wednesday and Thursday, but last week The Voice changed their schedule and added a third show this week to go up against the X Factor premier. Simon isn't too happy from the interviews I seen with him. lol

X Factor was adjusted up to a 3.4, so unless The Voice also gets adjusted up, X Factor won the night.
