I love how Louis speaks his mind in soundbites.

simon was back this year and the x factor seems to miss his presence. then there is the diversity in talent, which keeps it interesting.

Bgt is a more varied show, with a better judging panel aswell.

X factor is old now. Though I wouldn't call the ratings 'poor' anyway. Maybe not up to the x factors usual standard , but they are still good ratings

The year before with Holden, McIntyre and Hoff was very poor. These shows can change each season. I don't see why XF can't recover and be much better next season, but it needs a glamour signing like the US got with Britney.

Well if the US X-Factor gets axed, I could see Simon returning full time to UK panel..

The format has been dull for years and the 'success rate' of the programme is poor so if it limps through to a tenth year it will have done well but should have ended before now imo.

What would ITV1 replace it with though? its their big money spinner for the last quarter of every year.

It'll come back in a new format just as 'Pop Idol' and 'Popstars the rivals' were superseded. That other autumn dead horse 'I'm a celeb' needs replacing too so ITV needs to do some urgent 'creative thinking'.

I'm sure they will have people working on that as we speak.

As for Louis, i'm sure he will already know exactly when X-Factor is ending and what the plan is.

The current panel are crap, by far the worst ever, and the contestant quality isn't great either. Not to mention the editing of the first few episodes was rubbish. I'm glad the show no longer invincible; hopefully it means they'll drop Gary (literally terrible) Tulisa (bland) and Louis (been there too long) for next time. I'll wait to see how Nicole does before I pass judgement, but if she's anything like on the US Version...

I miss the days of Simon, Cheryl, etcetera. They might have been annoying for some, but at least they were watchable and stirred some kind of reaction out of people (even if it was negative). There was always a real excitement in those days. Gary in particular is too dull, dry, beige, etcetera to evoke anything but apathy from me.

BGT is more varied, both in acts and ages, so it catches a wider audience.

X Factor seems to be concentrating too much on younger acts these days, whilst its original audience is now older and getting tired of seeing teenybopper wannabes every week. The overall younger judging panel doesn't help either. It was far better in the early years when they had judges that were out of nappies (but still cool enough to throw their toys out of the pram every other week).

Louis is 60 and Gary is 41. They make up 50% of the judges.

Totally agree. For a show that was going to find a global superstar it has failed.

If it was an employee it would have had a P45 by now.

It still makes millions and will continue to make millions for a good few years to come. Even with these low ratings.

Here's the problem:

The pop charts are only for younger acts, but by being too 'young' it dismisses some of the older viewers, which is why acts like Tesco Mary and Johnny Wilkinson were important to the show - though they were never likely to win.

But having older means it can look naff and old fashioned for the trendies, so it treds a fine line and often can't win.

Completely agree. Without the right panel.... it does not work. Simon, Cheryl, and Dannii along with Louis WERE the X-factor.

The fodder on the stage just change names every year, and is just basically a rehash of everything that came the previous year, even the tedious reappearance of people who failed in the previous year coming back is stale.

Well, last year the auditions did really well in the ratings and it kind of went downhill once it reached the live shows. You never know, it could go up this year after the auditions so far have been really low.

For the first time since it started I'm not watching this year. I really cant be bothered with it any more. It's boring, same format every time. Mentalists at the auditions, people you really like get through on great voices sometimes doing their own songs only to fail miserably trying to do some Rod Stewart cover or something else belonging to a star that hasn't been relevant in the last decade.

The talent is really poor this year, and the judges have been unanimously praising some really bad acts as well.
