Panasonic TV problem
Hi,
Hoping there are some TV repairers on this forum. I have a Panasonic tx-28ps12, its around 7 years old I think. Its a CRT TV. Well I was watching a movie and it just turned off, I thought a fuse had blowned, etc.. What I have noticed, everytime I switch it on, it could come on and switch off again and the red light next to the "on" switch will flash. I have disconnected all scart cables, etc Can anyone shed some light on this? (please don't say, dump it, get a new tv, that will happen, but I would like to fix this) |

Sorry, but a CRT TV is completely worthless - in perfect working order you would struggle to give it away.
The red light flashing is normally an error indication, it 'may' flash a certain number of times to indicate where the fault might lie. If for some reason you want a CRT set?, there are thousands thrown out every week, even charity shops will rarely take them. |

My guess (because it suddenly shut down in use) is line output transformer. If so not worth even looking at it.
I did an exercise for a rental property a couple of weeks ago. The tenants wanted CHEAP televisions for each room so I got them 5 free CRT tv's to which they added cheap freeview boxes. A simple wanted ad on the local freecycle produced many offers of free CRT sets. One was a quite nice JVC 28" widescreen in perfect working order. So just do the same, get another working one for free and take the broken one to the tip to be recycled. |

You need someone with access to the service manual, which will tell you what 3 flashes means (I couldn't find any sense about it on google).

You could always ask here. But you may not get a quick reply, as very few people bother repairing CRT sets now http://www.tv.quuq.org/forum/index.php?board=25.0

http://www.fixya.com/support/t613579...2_ctv_tv_turns I will open it up and see, for curiosity's sake. With the power disconnected of course. |

As others have pointed out it's not expensive to get a replacement CRT as people are giving them away so that may well be an easier alternative than fixing your one.
I suspect some voodoo magic..lol |

from this website, it seems the three flashes means a faulty fan. do they have fans??
I checked my few Panasonic manuals, I only have a TX28PN1, which doesn't appear to have error codes. |

Like I said, I could find no sense on the internet - I saw that site, the reference to a fan is for a completely different model (not even a CRT set at all). There's little commonality across error codes, different models from the same manufacturer often use different codes.

Favourite on a TV of that age is failing electrolytics in the power supply. I don't know the set so I can't give you any further info, but a blanket replacement of all the large caps in that area usually pays off.

Also, capacitor failures don't generally give error codes (it's too catastrophic for that). |

It just switches off when you turn it on and the light next to the power button flashes three times. here is the model number. panasonic tx-28ps12 family have already started to give me list of tvs they like..lol... I might just get a new one, too much hassle. I have the weekend to decide and see if I can find a solution. |

Someone round here must have sold a LOT of Panasonic CRT's, because we get loads coming in for disposal (many of which are fully working). |

I got a 32 inch Panasonic CRT TV with Pro-Logic sound, and I noticed a problem with mine too, only after switch on, the picture flashes a red colour, and after a couple of minutes returns to normal. Does this mean that the Colour Tube, is on it's way out? I have had this set for about 9 years.

Yet the British Heart Foundation shop near here has a whole shelf full of them at around £40 each and they sell.
We can't even give them away

They are doing amazingly well then - charity shops round here won't even accept them, as they can't sell them.

Panasonic TV Problem (Subversive)
For goodness sake Subversive take note of the advice given you. Your CRT TV isn't worth repairing ! It's probably a fire risk by now - Flatscreen TVs - especially Digital and now HD are incredibly good value and give you outstanding picture quality -
Do your eyes a favour and get one (no less tha 42" !!!). P.S. Oh yes and at 0414 hrs you should be in bed fast asleep ! Last edited by Airborne : 15-09-2012 at 10:21. Reason: amendment |

I "only" have a 32" LCD, but when I installed that 28" CRT for someone a couple of weeks back, I was shocked at how tiny the picture looked. |
