Am I making a mistake?
I have just phoned up and arranged for my Virgin Mobile number to be ported over to Orange on the 14th Dec, am i making a mistake here or are Orange much better than Virgin?
I am only doing it as Orange are cheaper than Virgin for texts. |

Virgin 100 minutes (any network):£14 Total: £24 Rollover: Yes - if another bundle is bought before expiry. --------- Orange 150 texts: £8 Orange 100 minutes: £20 Total £28 Rollover: NO -------------------- Conclusion: Orange are currently cheaper on text messages alone, however for combined calling/texting (100 minutes isnt that much!) Virgin come out much cheaper. In fact as shown about with Virgin you get an extra 50 texts, rollover option and save £4. So i would stick with Virgin.

To me you can't beat Virgin, my friends are also on Virgin so texts are 3p. I don't use it much to phone so is ideal.
Certainly don't use £10 a month, maybe £1 or £2 a month. Can't see the point in wasting money on mobile calls, when you can make landline calls for either free or 1p/call. |

But if you use a T-Mobile, Orange or one of their virtuals like Virgin, and talk to someone on those too, the sound quality is excellent, but talk to someone on O2 or Vodafone and you notice a big drop in the quality of the speech, you notice the same from your landline, speak to someone on T-Mobile, Orange etc, you wouldn't know it was a mobile, speak to someone on O2 or Vodafone, and you can hear the drop in speech quality. |

Am currently considering going from Orange to Virgin, I moved house last year and now live in an Orange blackspot. Plus I'm on OVP Virgin with a monthly phone bill of around £5, and have had the same 7110e handset since July 2000, Orange won't upgrade me to a new handset unless I dump OVP Virgin. I've tried putting my SIM into borrowed borrowed recent PAYG handsets but the battery dies in 24 hours (I guess it could be a 5v vs 3v SIM voltage / compatibility problem) so buying a PAYG phone and switching the SIMS won't fully solve the problem.
I decided against Voda because voicemail alerts can take hours take to be delivered, and against O2 because of coverage probs at home. |

I still think that Virgin is a good all rounder. |

I think people should switch from O2 i mean i feel sorry for the people who switched from T-Mobile to O2 (which was the case with most people i know).

Yeah, O2 can't even offer delivery reports, without having to enter a code at the start of a message.

Virgin is still the best for overall cheap calls/texts. Plus FREE answerphone!

It's good that the voicemail is free to retrieve, but I don't have it switched on 99% of the time, because I like to be considerate to people who call me, and not let them get charged to find out I can't be reached.
