Between 1991-1997 I watched Brookside and its height it was controversial but also very good. The show was axed in 2003 after 21 years, I wonder if it could ever be brought back- maybe on Channel 5?

No! It's dead and it would be pointless bringing it back.

I suppose technically if they can rebuild replica sets like they did for Emmerdale and currently are doing for Corrie they could rebuild a Brookside set as the original is now a private housing estate. Of course it all boils down to money and whether it's viable which means it is unlikely to happen I guess.

What I'd like to see rather than a full Brookie return is something like a series which has Jimmy Corkhill (one of my favourite characters) as the main focus and what's going on in his life now. Through Jimmy you'd be able to bring back Barry Grant too as he was shacked up with Jimmy's daughter, which means in turn Sheila could also make appearances, although the actress is in Corrie now. Jimmy had a lot of friends over the years too like Sinbad, Tinhead, Nikki so they could have him still in touch with them and them making guest appearances. In Jimmy's blog which followed the end of Brookside didn't he open some gardening business when he moved in with Lindsey and Barry? That could be a good point for storylines.

Mind you it would all depend on whether the actors would want to reprise their roles.

Brookside is over but there's no reason C4 couldn't introduce a new soap with adult themes based on a housing estate - Brookside in spirit, if you like, but probably not based in Liverpool or with any cast crossovers.

So Eldorado isn't happening then?

Brookside was amazing. I watched it however I always found the amount of power (owning & running a club etc) they gave Jacqui Dixon a bit unbelievable given her age.

If you think Brookside is over because it's difficult bringing it back then I assume the same for others soaps such as Crossroads, Eldorado, Family Affairs etc too?

Hmmm I could see either Channel 4 showing re-runs or Channel 5 considering reviving the whole soap, however it would take a lot of planning, persuasion and media interest to make it at least work!

Personally I'd just settle for re-runs and remember the show how I saw it.

Oh. I didn't say Brookside is over because of the difficulties of bringing it back, just that, being realistic, C4 are not going to revive a decade old brand that by the end of its run was ratings poison.

Much longer has passed since Eldorado and that actually had decent ratings, although I don't expect BBC will bring that back either. Crossroads is the only British soap to be revived after a long period off air isn't it?

I think Channel 5 is their best bet but then they chose Neighbours and Home And Away.

The have got Big Brother so could do the same for Brookside we'll see.

Yes, Channel 4 is making cuts so a non starter..for now.

I mean in the actual show though
In the last ever episode, Barry Grant and Lindsey Corkhill return to the Close, Barry asking Jimmy for Lindsey's hand in marriage.

The other residents of Brookside face a tough and testing time with Michaelson. And then the police arrive to investigate a body on the Close...

I used to love Brookside. For a soap quite a few of the actors moved on and did well and others seem to pop up in other shows over the years. I would imagine it was the best soap to appear in if you wanted a career after it!!! Although I never quite understood how Amanda Burton found fame after, awful actress!

Lol ... so true!!

One minute she was a snotty-nosed kid, always mooching about & saying things like ... "Arr-aye Dad" .......... then the next minute she owned everything in West Derby!!

I may have to order that! I'm not a great Soaps fan and wouldn't buy any DVD's of any soap, but I have a soft spot for Brookside, a soap I regularly watched back in the day!

No, they have sold the houses.

With ITV having a whopping 11 episodes of Corrie and Emmedale each week and the BBC with their rather modest, by comparison, 4 episodes of EE each week there just isn't room for another soap in the schedules. Brookie would always be clashing with one of the others, all the slots it previously occupied have been taken.

Not to mention the fact the show jumped the shark several times over before it ended. The residents all moved away in the end, the only way to do it would be treating it like a new show somewhere else with a totally different cast, unless you set it where one of the old families moved to and have them in it.
