Didn't see this coming after the excellent (but poorly rated) premiere, ratings fell again last night for the second audition episode to 8.247m with the all important 18-49 demo rating of 3.1, with very little competition. Really not looking good for the show now.

I guess Chris Crocker finally got his wish, - people are leaving Britney alone.

It was up against the America's got Talent Finale so of course the ratings were going to be down It will be fine and the raitings should go up as the weeks go on

While the first two ratings are obviously disappointing, the show is going to build upward. Smashing the record for social media commentary, excellent reviews from critics and fans, word of mouth will give it a big bump in the coming weeks. Not to mention no clashing with other popular shows.

I hope so, I actually really enjoyed the first two episodes - and this panel works incredibly well.

Is that you Simon? LOl. The show has very little chance of improving in the ratings. The Big Bang Theory and Two and a half men will be back in a week or two. The way things are going is it will end the season in the 2's which make it a candidate for cancellation.

And AGT was won by dogs.

Our BGT was won by a dog.

There is a moral in this I think.

Very little chance? The show got universal praise and a swarm of buzz on Twitter. It's difficult making people tune into a premiere for a show that was so shite last season. People's minds need changing that it's worth tuning in for - the word of mouth will do that.

Oh I expected a much bigger drop, considering the AGT. I thought it was gonna bob alot more, this is a fairly alright drop, considering everything has a drop after a first episode!!!!!

Twitter buzz means nothing for ratings if people don't watch. Did the Millions of people who voted for Joe McElderry and Matt Cardle go on to buy their albums? Stop trying to defend the underperformance. As I mentioned on yesterdays thread X Factor's main problem in the USA is that Idol is still the number 1 show on US TV. Fox has cannibalised the ratings for the number 1 show Idol and got fewer viewers for X Factor than expected talk about greedy. There is Viewer fatigue for these types of shows. The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men are massive in ratings so X Factor will suffer even more in the next few weeks.

All I got to say is our ratings system is flawed...and a lot of people DVR as well.

It was up against the FINAL for another talent competition show, and Thursday's ratings were always lower. I think it held up quite well from the premiere.

The ratings are definitely disappointing, but the show is still doing well in the demo, not amazing, but still good, and its enough for the show to be back next year.

So, first episode it was The Voice
Second episode it was AGT

Wow, I wonder what the excuses next week are, if XFUSA manages to get only 8 million viewers?

They can't live on excuses every week

So, well see

It built on the comparable hour on Wednesday night (which had a 2.7 vs The Voice) but it's still not good. On the plus side, Glee followed with a 3.1, dropping from X Factor's second half hour in the more watched 9pm hour. FOX are in a bit of bother, particularly in the "fall".

X Factor should be looking to build next week. NBC have done their best to damage it this week and they have succeeded. But next week rather than their successful talent shows, X Factor's Thursday episode will only be up against their low rating comedy line-up. On Wednesday they've got the season premiere of Survivor and season finale of Big Brother which, while not ideal, is still far better than The Voice and AGT which most likely share more viewers. And it'll have to get used to Survivor because they'll be competing every week.

One issue for me is that by Thursday at 9pm the networks will have shown 6 hours of talent shows. That kind of saturation coverage could make it difficult for either X Factor or The Voice to hold up as we head further into the season.

regardless of the 'excuses' offered here and by xfactor usa, ratings are falling and other shows are more popular at the moment. Its much like listening to the tories explain away the fall in GDP from one quarter to the next; its the weather, the jubilee etc - at some point you have to face up to the truth.

It's last chance saloon this season; if they can't turn things around soon, there won't be a 3rd season. i can't help but feel that with idol, the voice and xfactor, the golden goose has been choked across the pond.

I'm finally watching the episode now. Why is there no singing in the first 5-10 minutes of the the first two episodes? Is this not a singing show?

There are too many of them. The Voice will be Monday Tuesday and X-Factor Wednesday, Thursday. That is too much singing in one week at the same time. In two weeks Grey's Anatomy starts back and that will be the death of Thursday night ratings for X-Factor. Especially on the premiere since we were left with a cliff hanger and it is one of ABCs most popular shows even still seven years down the road. X-Factor is like the bald headed step child of the TV world. It's that thing you watch when you make sure nothing you want is on. If it was down to anything good and X-Factor, it wouldn't be X-Factor.

Grey's airs at 9pm against Glee. Although I suspect its closest competition might be Person of Interest which was closing the gap towards the end of last season on a few occasions. Glee did worse than X Factor on Thursday night which wasn't a happy one for FOX!

At 8pm X Factor will be against The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men which has the potential to be the highest rated hour on television outside Sunday Night Football. The only unknown is how will The Last Resort perform on ABC. X Factor is likely to finish second or third in its hour depending on how that does.

I forgot Greys was on at 9. I doubt Last Resort will do well. ABC struck gold with Greys and they have had trouble duplicating it ever since.

Episode 3 was only a 0.1 rise from last week and of course way down from first season's mirror episode, worrying times for Simon.

For the investment FOX has put into the second season, 3.6 is clearly not good enough. FOX advertisers are seeing the folks over at NBC and The Voice getting 4.7 two days in a row this week with 5 million more viewers than Xfactor. That's what counts.

Week 2 had a 3.6, up 6% from last week but down 12% from the equivalent episode last year.
