Marketplace coming soon to freeview
tomee
14-09-2012
Marketplace will start its freeview life on LCN61 and will move to LCN 50 on 17/10/12.

So what do we need to no?

1.What is Marketplace? (I am guessing a shopping channel.)
2. What hours.?
3 What Mux.?
4.Will a channel have to close for this new channel to stated broadcasting?

Well, tomee, I've done a quick internet search and come up with absolutely nada!

All I can assume from the name is that it's probably another retail opportunity and probably not worth watching either. As far as shopping channels go in terms of presentation, there's QVC and everyone else is also rans and no doubt this Marketplace thingy will be in the latter category.

Probably another Big Deal style operation, might be limited hours too, it'll be another one on the instant delete list

I don't delete all the shopping channels because from time-to-time I'm in the mood for watching the better ones - out of QVC, IW, bid, C&C and price-drop, there's usually one that's watchable

MUX is SDN

It has a MHEG saying "The place for great deals 7am-11am every day"

We'll get to see what it's like but my betting is that it'll be a pretty downmarket and uninteresting shopping channel.

TopUp Anytime 1 no longer transmits after 7am, so that looks like where the space is coming from. It also ties in with the start time of GOLD/Home.

IIRC TUTV test drove this teleshopping segment to its subscribers starting 27/2/12 7am-11am. At that time the teleshopping was provided by JCM Direct.

It did indeed. Perhaps TUTV need a little extra cash ?

Good channels? no, there are some good programmes now and again, but paying over £9 a month so i can watch the few I did is just too much.

Another waste of channel space.

Just watched a few minutes of it - that's all that I could take.

Very low PQ video,, americanised - indeed, the presenter (or "host" as described on the captions) is American, the style, presentation and fakeness is very American, the testimonials are from Americans, so it could simply be an American video advertising Stonewell pans with UK graphics superimposed), and very much like those teleshopping inserts played out when main channels have closed.

Courtesy of JCMDirect, you can only order by calling an 0871 number (10p/min from a BT landline).

Quite why this deserved a channel on its own is beyond me.

I will not be returning to it.

Oh no! Not Wow TV as well!

But seriously, I'm fed up of all the shopping channels that are on "Freeview". If you wake up too early these days nearly every non-BBC channel is showing some form of direct marketing. It seems these sorts of channels or sub-channels must make money. But who buys from JCMDirect? "But wait... not only do you get the <insert product name> you get the <product 2> for free. And that's not all. If you order your <product name> .... ". Nothing is for free, so the products are not worth the price advertised. Probably a con.
