I used to follow him on Twitter, but stopped after awhile as I found his tweets to be "up his own bottom"..... type.

Absolutely - I read it as her railing at the imaginary "haters" who "caused" the imaginary exit of Mr Gatiss and the "you" in her post meant those imaginary villains - not the fans/members here - who are obviously real

Her only "crime" here was in firing-off with absolutely no facts - just an erroneous assumptions and conclusions based on that.

Given that the same applies to so many posts and threads on this forum about the show and story arcs, I think we can forgive her - just this once

At least she didn't say Gatiss is the fleshie copy of the Master who is disguised as the Rani cos he's working for Omega. That would have really set the cat amongst the Macra.

*ahem*

Any answers were given in response to questions posed to me. It is not my policy to lie when asked a question.

I am not homophobic, in fact, I am in charge of diversity policies for our company.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why do people think that Dr Who has such a large gay fanbase?

Can anybody think of any serious reasons why this might be so?

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showt...0#post61169530

Some of you might not know that Mark Gatiss is also interested in horror and has actually written some horror stories too

Judging by that thread, and what you've said here, you don't know any gay people at all. You may have met lots, be around them and talk to them, but you really don't know them.

What you have said about gay people, and black people, shows a deep ignorance. You probably aren't a troll, but you aren't doing yourself any favours by starting that off-handedly offensive thread (seriously, you think gay people watch because there's a gay in it? or for the ambiguous escapism - whatever you meant by that?).

I would probably step away from the keyboard for a little while (at least in this forum), then discuss other things Who related later.

Sebbie, I disagree. I see no serious curiosity in the questions they ask. Just a desire to provoke pointless argument. Classic trolling. Including the criticism of myself as if I don't know what trolling is. I was involved in the computer industry before some of these tossers were born. I know a troll when I see one. Even if they do some non trolling elsewhere.

I think that's a little out of order.

This is a subject that has popped up in conversation in the real world between myself and friends of mine who are gay, some of whom are long time Doctor Who fans.

Yes, Doctor Who has always had a large gay following, but also RTD brought followers of his own work (such as Queer As Folk) to the show's fanbase too.

Whether or not the percentage of the fanbase that are homosexual males has increased is debatable though as Davies vastly increased the show's fanbase as a whole.

I would also suggest that in countries that still place an undue amount of respect on the outdated traditional macho male image, that the percentage of the heterosexual male audience might be lessened somewhat by an inability to identify with a more sensitive male character such as the Doctor, so the proportion of the gay viewership would be increased by default.

Not that it really matters anyway, It's just good to see people enjoying the show, But it is interesting to consider how the show's fanbase expands and develops as the years go by.

Erm, that's like arresting an innocent person because "I know a criminal when i see one" ..... UNJUSTIFIED!

What I find interesting here is that the pair of you can't agree on the justification for your indignation, It's like watching a Priest and a Rabbi double-teaming Richard Dawkins.

I have no problems with what you're saying, as you aren't being flippantly bigoted. Unfortunately, richardcoulter has been. If you would care to read the whole thread from when he started making asinine comments, then you would understand.

Erm, again. Please read the whole of what was said by a certain other person. I don't quite think you know what you're talking about.

I've read and just now seen the remark about black people, which I consider poorly worded to the point where it IS a bigoted remark, however it is a remark that, although better worded at the time, I have heard black friends make about people within their own community. It is the generalisation that makes it prejudiced.

Likewise I wouldn't say myself that all homosexual males are prone to bitchiness due to the influence of negative effeminate sterotypes, but I wouldn't say the phenomena doesn't occur either.

If you can't see that his thoughts about gay people are equally as bigoted as his thoughts about black people, I'm not sure what I can say to explain.

But I will say it's not just the generalising, it's the casual nature of the remarks - almost like a: "well, I've heard them say it, so I'll throw it around, too."

How on earth can you be in charge of diversity policies when you think gay men are "immature" and black people "bring it upon themselves"?

It's like running Weight Watchers and saying, "Well the problem is you're basically lazy .... "

As someone with a disability I am horrified that the person making these comments is apparently able to describe disabled people as a whole when he probably only met a tiny percentage of the disabled population. Plus instead of criticising the disabled people who feel negative why don't you try and help them instead?

Please can you show your company your comments, I cannot believe you are head of diversity after making those comments and I think it demonstrates how much diversity is taken seriously in the country that you work in.

My personal views and my role as a Company Director are separate issues.

As I own the majority of the shares in the company and help to run it, the company has already seen what I wrote by default as we are one and the same!
