You probably aren't a troll, but you aren't doing yourself any favours by starting that off-handedly offensive thread (seriously, you think gay people watch because there's a gay in it? or for the ambiguous escapism - whatever you meant by that?).
I would probably step away from the keyboard for a little while (at least in this forum), then discuss other things Who related later.”
I think that's a little out of order.
This is a subject that has popped up in conversation in the real world between myself and friends of mine who are gay, some of whom are long time Doctor Who fans.
Yes, Doctor Who has always had a large gay following, but also RTD brought followers of his own work (such as Queer As Folk) to the show's fanbase too.
Whether or not the percentage of the fanbase that are homosexual males has increased is debatable though as Davies vastly increased the show's fanbase as a whole.
I would also suggest that in countries that still place an undue amount of respect on the outdated traditional macho male image, that the percentage of the heterosexual male audience might be lessened somewhat by an inability to identify with a more sensitive male character such as the Doctor, so the proportion of the gay viewership would be increased by default.
Not that it really matters anyway, It's just good to see people enjoying the show, But it is interesting to consider how the show's fanbase expands and develops as the years go by.
