the Mel Blanc Show
Lovers of old time radio unite, I've been a long time fan of Mel Blanc and his work. I discovered recordings of his old shows online and decided to give it a listen. There are people who say comedy ages badly on radio, but these shows are class. I love the characters, and the sheer brilliance of Mel Blanc at work.

He used to appear in many US OTR shows such as Jack Benny, Burns and Allen and the show mentioned on this thread...he runs a DIY store as himself but has a characgter called Zooky(sp?)which allows him to do a character voice.
Once you start listening to US OTR you'll realise the wonderful radio that America had in the 40's and early 50's before TV killed it. Podcasts and streaming on the net, You have so much from comedy, varfiety an drama/sci fi. Also lots of old US TV where people like Mel Blanc can be seen are on You Tube too.... |

Andy, You know I have every episode of it and yet have never got around to playing them all.
Sadly I have so much radio material and music, if I tried to listen to it all I will never live long enough and with no one to pass my meagre possesions to they'll be disgarded. Either on my passing or if I end up in a home with no room for most of my gear. Who wants lots of second hand electrical items and old charity clothes... That sounds so sad and miserable...sorry... Such is life eh?

The Mel Blanc Show is sometimes broadcast on CFRA 580 News radio from Canada during the night.

I've very picky with American old-time-radio. They are often badly written, and churned out with little quality. However 'The Great Gildersleeve' is of the highest quality. I am working through the episodes in order, and they get better all the time. Harold Peary must be the most competent radio comedian ever, delivering his lines so well, that you don't need to see his face to interpret his mood.
Come on Gildersleeve, don't get so depressed, just give us a Gildy laugh! Memories last longer than things anyway.
