It doesn't negate any natural ability, but it does hinder you. The same way being tall hinders you in some of the latin dances.

I think she just made the comment to appeal to viewers of a similar weight. Same way every bloody Scottish contestant (and I can say this because I'm a Scot) tries to rope in Scots to vote for them by playing the whole 'I'm one of you!' card. Everyone has to have their niche. It seems she's picked hers.

She's mentioned it again already (sort of). This from her Twitter:

Quote:
“That @Robinwindsor is working me hard I have just put my costume on its miles to big! If I keep this up I could lose a stone by Friday!”

Dani Harmer is like the 'after' poster to Lisa Riley's 'before'. Better than trying to lose weight dancing, she should start by trying to lose weight by eating salad.

That's all Tom banged on about during his time on Strictly in 2008. Cue lots of VTs about it and Camilla knocking on his hotel door the morning after the marriage was consumated.

I remember my junior school netball teacher, she was a dead ringer for Hattie Jacques and she was very nifty as she moved around the court (which is more than you could have said for me skulking along the edge).

However, doesn't it make some holds a bit awkward?

2. The Chubbers Guide to No Galaxy

You just did.

Discounting those with mental/psychological issues, or illness and pills they took that made them fat, I do think many people I've come across (family, friends) they had more net intake calaries than they burn them each day. It all adds up.

There was a very illuminating documentary shown in the BBC (watched it on iplayer), hosted by a doctor, and just increasing your movements per day, and making sure you have less calories intake than the amount you burn would guarantee one to lose weight.

Recently there was a cook programme of the Hairy Bikers (called the Hairy Dieters), and they had the hard facts staring back at them: they are fat because they indulge too much in rich food, and didn't burn enough calories. They tried to watch what they ate, and with a little bit of creativity in their cooking (plus more exercise every day), the programme showed them losing weight successfully, and looking much healthier as a result.

Posts like this - along with references to Lisa 'banging on' about her weight - make me amazed at how so many people don't realise that Strictly is SCRIPTED. The producers ask contestants to say things for the camera, so they can construct some kind of narrative. I'm sure Lisa is as keen to harp on about her weight as Tom was to refer to his wedding - it's putting their private lives in the public eye - but that's part of the job, and they have to go along with what the bosses ask them to do.

It's no surprise Lisa's been asked to comment on her weight. That's her 'character' for the show, as decided by the producers. Whether or not people like that is another matter, but this will not have been her choice - it's the role she's been asked to play.

Yes. Obviously

It's a physical dance, there are physical aspects to it. Age, height, fitness, weight, shape, they all clearly have an impact on performance.

It might be counter-intuitive, but I'd suspect Lisa would be better at Latin than ballroom - the physical constraints of hold in ballroom might emphasize the issues, whereas Latin dances are more about performance.

I'm not sure that she would have been asked to say this.

I genuinely think that weight is a different issue for men than it is for women. For men, it's a logical thing, you cut down on calories, you exercise a bit more, you lose weight.

For women, food is a psychologica/emotional thing. It's your friend, your enemy, it makes you feel better when you're depressed, it's to have a party and celebrate, it's there when you're bored and it doesn't judge you. Yes, you know logically how to lose weight, but nothing about losing weight is logical for a woman. It's why we have such a different relationship with chocolate to men.

I lost 8 stone at WW and I now weigh and counsel other women, it's got not a lot to do with what you put in your mouth, it's what goes on between your ears.

Food is the only addiction that you have to face every day. If you're an alcoholic or a gambler or a drug addict, you can avoid your addiction, whereas people with food addiction have to face that addiction at least 3 times a day.

It must be nice for the judgmental amongst us to sit on that high horse and make judgments about things they know very little about.

think it's pretty unfair to say everyone who is fat overeats.
Yes alot are but there are people with genuine hormone problems pcos underactive thyroid.
What about people on steroids or cancer sufferers or body builders i'm not saying it's healthy to be overweight.
But some people have no choice.

Just the same can be said for thin ppl tho. They claim they "eat and eat" and can't put weight on when they obviously have some "other" problem.

True. But it's very fair to say that most of us will lose weight if we A/ Eat less and B/ Exercise more.

I don't have the figures, but I'd bet that the vast majority of overweight people are overweight because they A/ Eat too much and B/ Don't exercise enough.

And when I say vast majority, I mean 99%+.

So I'm inclined to think that people who are genuinely overwieght are so because they eat too much, and don't exercise enough.

So for the vast majority of us (and yes, I'm also a little chubby), it is a lifestyle choice.
