You have to feel sorry for Jessie Wallace and Shane Richie, the writers have taken Kat and Alfie to place where maybe there is no road back for them - they have literally destroyed the characters and Kat in particular is probarly the most unpopular character on the show now...

The thing is the way they try and redeem Kat is by giving her constant affairs. The only way she can be redeemed now is if they break her up from Alfie and have her living her own life for a bit. But they seem reluctant to split the Moons up for good, they are living on past glories and it's not working.

Kat is a spent force I'm afraid, but Alfie can be redeemed, either by him showing a darker and more resolute side (we have seen signs of this recently), or by getting together with Roxy. Or both.

I agree, but let's face it: the writers have been doing such a great job that they'll probably change Alfie's character completely when he's with Roxy, and he suddenly becomes jealous and possessive and it's even more annoying to watch.

Roxy and Alfie are both naturally easy going people and they would mae a great couple together.

He has already shown some different (dubious?) character traits:~

Trying to rip off a known hard(ish) man in Derek

Issuing a softly-spoken threat to Michael

Violently pushing Kat against the wall last week.

Who knows, IF Toadface is the shagger, maybe Alfie is the catalyst for his departure (well, we can be dream I suppose).

I'd like Alfie to leave and Kat to return to prostitution, flat share with an eastern european girl and get some realism going on The Square again.

Mo would have to leave and live with Charlie, not sure where Jean would fit in with this unfortunately, I love her but she is a bit of a spare part if Kat and Alfie break up and either one of them leaves. Maybe Jean could go on a 6 month break and return to help Kat get off the game and clean her act up for Tommy's sake.

I found all these incredibly jarring and annoying. Seeing Alfie try and be a tough guy is laughable, just like Winston in goal

Yes, they have ruined them. They were once such an excellent couple to watch.

Yes they've done too much damage in my opinion for them to stay together but they will try and squeeze as many miserable depressive storylines as possible out of them before there is nothing left for them to do.

No it seems like they don't realise. The way they had Kat says "wish me luck" seems like they thought we would be cheering for her!

I honestly don't think producers/writers of the show have ruined Alfie, Kat maybe they have a little, but not totally. In some ways they've turned Kat into someone unlikable, but then she could be pretty unlikable in her original stint too, especially towards the end of it. The writers just need to give them some happiness and after this affair plot, I can't see them being happy together anymore.

Alfie's still a great character though and the actor is still winning many awards for his work in Eastenders so I don't think he's been ruined at all. It would benefit him to get rid of Kat though, get with Roxy and share more scenes with Derek, Phil, Ian, Tyler and Michael. I wouldn't be surprised if they split Kat and Alfie up, Kat leaves next year, then when Alfie leaves in a few years time, they'll bring back Kat and give them a happy ever after again.

I think Alfie's still got a lot of time to redeem himself. The writers need to give him a bit more of an edge , like he showed on Friday. If he just takes back Kat again, then he'll remain a laughing stock. People are very keen to see him and Roxy together, which I still hope happens.

Hope we see more of him and Michael. If Kat walks out on him and Tommy, then they could move in with Michael and Scarlet, which would be an interesting dynamic of two single men raising their children together.
