The bbc app is hardly worth it anyway! Firefox + flash for a much better picture.

Hmm, it's not looking good for TV on the Nexus 7 with 4.2.

iPlayer - Not compatible
ITV Player - Not compatible
4OD - Not compatible
Sky Go - Not compatible
TVCatchup - Not compatible

As the Nexus 4 and 10 both ship with 4.2 I imagine the situation will be exactly the same on those devices...

All but Sky Go work fine.

I don't know what sideload means. In any case, iPlayer on a tablet is not that important to me - if I am going to watch a programme on iPlayer, I would rather watch it on my TV.

(By the way, your user name intrigues me - I used to work with someone in Reading with a name that could be abbreviated to yours, and who moved to London.)

So if you've updated to 4.2 you cannot use iPlayer?! Both my app and going on the website don't work.

What else would you expect from a company that reduces its workers hours, makes it up using Workfare un-free labour, with the taxpayer picking up the bill and contributing to its profits?

Wierd. Must be an oversight and some lazy devs relying on strict number versioning, since i already had those apps (iPlayer and TVcatchup, anyway) on my device pre-update and they still work fine.

The Play Store definitely marks them as non-compatible, though. I'm sure it'll be fixed in a matter of ... days. Or for the BBC ... like ... whenever.

If you've installed iplayer before upgrading to 4.2, it should work fine. However if you upgrade to 4.2, iplayer can't be installed from the Google Play App store......

.....however it can be 'sideloaded', which just means that rather than downloading it from Google Play you download it from somewhere else and install it. Of course there are risks with this as it might possibly be a dodgy app rather than iplayer, but if you go to somewhere reputable like xda they usually have them ready to go. e.g.

has an old version that also needs you to install Flash (link to that on the same page too)

Photo Sphere panorama photos
Keyboard with gesture typing
Lockscreen improvements, including widget support and the ability to swipe directly to camera
Notification power controls
"Daydream" screensaver, showing information when idle or docked
Multiple user accounts (tablets only)
Support for wireless display (Miracast)
Accessibility improvements: triple-tap to magnify the entire screen, pan and zoom with two fingers. Speech output and Gesture Mode navigation for blind users
New clock app with built-in world clock, stop watch and timer
All devices now use the same interface layout, adapted from phones on 4.1 for smaller tablets (with centered software buttons, the system bar at the top of the screen, and a similar home screen), regardless of screen size
Increased number of extended notifications and Actionable Notifications for more apps, allowing the response to certain notifications within the notification bar and without launching the app directly
SELinux
Always-on VPN
Premium SMS confirmation
Phone-like launcher for small tablets in Android 4.1 extended to larger tablets, as seen with the Nexus 10

Somebody said to turn wifi off overnight when my wife's nexus mostly seems to get it.

Not had it for about a week now, which has got me thinking maybe in our case its some app syncing overnight causing a issue.

Going to leave wifi on tonight and turn syncing off.

Don't think it's hardware.

Why leave your Nexus on all night?
Maybe it's a problem caused by leaving the Nexus on all the time and it never getting a system reboot?

I leave my tab on all the time, but restart it once a week for maintenance purposes.

I would imagine that even in standby you're using up some of your battery.
I always turn mine off when I'm not going to use it for a few hours, I'm patient enough to wait 45 seconds on it booting up.
I'm no expert but I also believe a regular system reboot will keep it running just that little bit better/smoother.

Leaving anything in standby will use up power, that's not the issue.

I am also patient enough to wait for it to boot up but you don't have to turn it off every time you are not using it for a number of hours.

Sure if I knew I was not going to use it for a few days then I would turn it off.

I still don't understand why you would leave it on though, there's a good reason why we never turn off our phones (unless we have to), they are phones. I wouldn't leave my computer or TV on overnight even if I knew I was going to use it the next day.
Needless power consumption imo.

Actually I do. Everything is turned off at the plug in my bedtime sweep. The only things left on over night are my fridge and my cordless phone.
