That's because the 8GB version is only sold by Google themselves on play.google.com.
thanks explains that to me then.

I have had my Nexus 7 about 9 weeks or so now and I have been 99% happy with it.

Just remember that it only works on wifi, not that I see that as an issue if you have wifi at home or spend a lot of time in wifi enabled places, libraries, coffee shops etc.
I think many people also tether, but lightly.

At the moment it is easier with an Android phone. IOS phone tethering can be linked to the mobile account so the switch is blacked out. Though I'm sure there are tethering apps for jailbreak iPhones.

Web browsing should not be a problem on any Tablet now – if it is I’d sent it back as it’s a basic requirement.

Time will tell whether the internet on tablets becomes limited, especially when it comes to transaction processing.

In the old days web site designers had to adhere to Internet Explorer which continuously flouted web standards.
As it had a near monopoly it was in Microsoft's interests to force the web to comply with them.

In what sense, and who would limit it?

Amazon (say) would be just as happy with me ordering from their pages on a desktop as they would from my tablet. Wouldn't they?

Eh?

I've ordered stuff from Amazon and other online sites with no issues from various mobile devices for years now.

I wouldn't call the internet on mobile devices limited at all.

There are bugs in every browser release.
IOS 6 has seemingly broken long polling which is meant to break loads of web apps.

When you buy something, you click a button to process a payment. The server obviously cannot authorise the payment until it gets an OK from the credit card company.
So it has to wait for the OK. The web browser using long polling is meant to know this and wait too. If long polling is not there then this part of the web is broken. It is supposedly common in Ajax stuff.

There are good web standards these days so breaking standards is more and more a thing of the past.
To be fair Opera is not always that great at transaction stuff.

ah, thanks for the clarification. that's a pretty specific example though isn't it? Surely either Apple will fix it (ideally) or websites will take it into account (though not sure how it could exactly...can't get the credit card authorised any faster).

Not sure I can see it leading to the internet being less than fully available on a tablet. At least no more so than Flash websites.

I had lots of trouble login in to DS on my Nexus, the pop up login window really didn't want to work, the same with Endomondo site which has a pop up login.

My main annoyance with Chrome on the Nexus 7 is it defaults to mobile web pages (making me tap the screen twice to get to display desktop version), Google really need to give it the option at least of always opening desktop versions first.

I traded my IPad2 in for a Nexus 7 and prefer it, it is easier to hold for longer periods. In terms of display, apps etc. I can't see any noticeable difference.

Usually it means sharing your smartphone's 3G internet connection with a tablet or laptop. Normally via WiFi or Bluetooth.

Not regretted getting mine. They are nice and fast, and Jellybean is good. Mine goes with me everywhere, I just tether it to my phone, when no WiFi is available.

The only thing online I've not been able to do so far on my Nexus and had to go to my desktop was a survey on Yougov. Everything was going fine until I came to a bit where they wanted me to drag answers into a box using a mouse. It just would not drag. But I have used ebay and bought off Amazon with no problems.

i had a problem too. it happens on a lot of mobile devices since they integrated with facebook.

it's the popup window it doesn't know how to position itself on tablets. it's the same on my nokia.

you can use the mobile login
https://s.digitalspy.com/dsid/login/...ums%2F&l=1&m=1
Code:
https://s.digitalspy.com/dsid/login/?redirect=%2Fforums%2F&l=1&m=1
which has a regular login box. then click for the full version of the forums. it will remember your preference even if for some reason it logs you out.

i use that link as my short cut to the ds forums.

That's more than likely because a lot of web designers don't code with Opera in mind. A tiny fraction of web users use Opera. Firefox, Chrome, IE and Safari are all much more popular and so get a lot more support.

IE always flouted more normal HTML rules so most web sites were written to work on IE.
So I'd say everyone else had to part reverse engineer their web browsers to cover what was really bad web site code.

Sites and browser are slowly getting written more to standard so that it 'just works'. Breaking a standard convention is as likely to be an oversight.
