Thanks for the replies.

Most games are available in the app market as stated, but some seem only available on Facebook which is a shame. Perhaps it might be best her investing in a better netbook or cheap notebook.

Thanks again

Googling for:
facebook games on tablet
lists a few entries which might supply the information that you need, but I haven't looked at them in detail

Nexus 7 just won T3's gadget of the year,
http://awards.t3.com/categories/gadget-of-the-year

beating the Transformer Prime, the Galaxy S3, the ipad 3 and various other bits n pieces.

Quote:
“Following a host of bloated, overpriced unsuccessful challengers to the iPad, Google has decided to take the responsibility on itself by subsidising a super-cheap, high-spec 7-inch tablet to top them all.

Complete with the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, the top-of-the-range Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, a stylish ASUS build, and a price-tag of £159 (for the 8BG model), the Nexus 7 has all the tools to outsell every tablet on the market, including you know what.”

T3 is the gadget show of magazines...

I do agree that for £169 (including delivery) you can't get a better tablet, I won't be ditching my iPad any time soon though, it has a better selection of apps with better reliability and quality that Android tablets don't yet have.

It's well deserved. I haven't used a gadget so much since the ipod was launched.

there is no bloatware on vanilla android.

the main benefit really of other launchers seems to be different transformation affects.

I use Nova Launcher, for a couple of reasons; firstly the ability to have the homescreens autorotate (and app drawer, though can't remember if that rotates on Jellybean anyway),
and also to allow better organisation of the app drawer into different pages.

I think it might slow it down a little, but worth it IMHO.

i've found an app to allow autorotation of the homescreen.

Which one are you using flagpole? The one I tried was buggy and caused general lag of the whole OS. All went back to normal after I uninstalled it.

This one
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d....fameit.rotate
Took me a while to figure out how to set it best.

In the end I have set the launcher to forced auto on a per app basis and left everything else to auto.

Digging up a post from over 3 years ago? Scary...

That's about when I stopped buying their magazines because I suspect there opinion had something to do with advertising fees.

Yet another publication that became more interested in generating revenue than actually providing fair and biased reviews, like the gadget show I was comparing them too.

Glad I didn't buy the app.

The developer will be pissed.

I tried the app for a while but decided not to buy it because of the way it interacted with some apps when they wanted to force landscape. Maybe the dev improved it since I tried it, but it was a little glitchy for me and I decided that I'd make do and hope Google released an update that did this.

The thing is, you need a landscape start screen if you're going to release docks that can function for the viewing of video, etc. Because otherwise you're going to close the video and be stuck with a portrait launcher screen in landscape mode. It was pretty inevitable that Google would release an update.

The guy shouldn't be that pissed though - he's made a ton of cash that he wouldn't have made if Google had allowed landscape mode from the beginning, and also his app allows greater control - with it you can run apps that force landscape mode in portrait mode, and set individual permissions for each app.

He'll still make some money, he should just market it differently.

it took me a while to figure out how to use it too. you basically need everything set to auto. and just the launcher set to forced auto as an individual app.
