I'm not convinced it was the channel changes which caused the EPG issue. I had the missing EPG entries issue before I carried out a retune for the channel changes. It may have been as the result of other changes to the transmitted data at around the same time.

I don't see what it's got to do with when a machine gets retuned, surely it's to do with when the data stream got changed. Whether a machine gets retuned or not, it's still having to work with whatever changes were made.

Yes I agree, that is what I was trying to say . I interpreted your post as implying it was the act of retuning the PVR that caused the issue.

I'm sure there is. The 'cure' before was the introduction of cacheing of the EPG on the hard disc, so the box didn't spend a lot of time/power/whatever repopulating it on coming out of standby, though I found it could still be a little iffy the first minute or two.
I don't believe the reappearance of this issue is not related to the lack of EPG population - I'd think this is causing the box to continually do what it did for the first 10-15 minutes before cacheing was enabled.

Thread seems quiet since Christmas. Has it been fixed or is there another thread?

'Holes' appearing and disappearing in the EPG - sometimes half is missing - is still a problem, as is occasional failure to respond to commands.

Problem still very much present, I think the thread is quiet because we've all pretty much given up hope of Humax responding to the many complaints, despite assurances last year that a fix was due soon. Very disappointing.

I still have the problem on my 9200T.

I cannot pin it down - it just seems random. Some times the EPG is fine; sometimes I have a few gaps, or a few channels with long gaps; sometimes almost all channels after 3 - 4 days are empty.

I am sure I once saw the EPG was fully populated right out to 6 or 7 days, but a few minutes later, the last 3 days were almost empty.

I think it is safe to say this is a "feature" of the 9200T

I find the remote control often (always?) freezes for about 20 seconds in the first few minutes after bringing the 9200T out of standby which I have put down to it freezing while the 9200T compares the EPG which has been got from the disk, with the broadcast EPG, and is downloading the changes.

I live in the Tyne Tees region (DH2 actually)

My Humax is also showing a full EPG for 3 days and it has gaps after that. The gaps mean that I cannot use the Guide to record a programme. I find that both recording by date and recording by title do not work on days that the EPG cannot see.

Is the solution to get a different PVR and can anyone recommend one that does not have a gappy EPG (ideally one which works in the Tyne Tees region).

Did you notice that your post is the first for over a year in this thread?

As the problem has been in existence for at least 18 months and Humax have not done anything about it I suspect they never will.

I suspect the only option is to get another PVR. The only other PVR which I am aware of with a similar issue is a Vestel T810 PVR which was produced around 10 years ago! I'm not aware of any current PVRs with the same issue. Of course all PVRs have some issues which some people don't like, So it's largely down to personal choice and how much you want to pay. There are many threads on here which discuss "what's the best PVR" and similar themes.

The gaps in the epg do not effect whether or not a timer recordings the programme or not. You have an additional issue. This additional issue is probably due to how your Humax is tuned to the channels.


You may save yourself some money, or give yourself more time to choose a new PVR, by manually tuning the channels in from scratch to just a single transmitter. For how to do this follow the instructions at [COLOR=windowtext]http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=71985828[/COLOR]

This can also have the side effect of reducing the number of gaps in the epg.

You need to be tuned to one, and only one, transmitter to get the best out of your Humax which I presume is a 9200T, 9150T or a 9300T. Which transmitter to use will depend on your exact location, your aerial type and also the direction your aerial points at.

You will need to delete all radio and TV channels before manually tuning, and make a note of your schedule.

If your software is reasonably up to date then it can take a few hours to populate again after the retune so that you can set up your schedule again.

With a new Freeview update available I retuned my existing MUXs (I have one missing to prevent the holes encountered in this thread) to enable the new channel numbers.

Imagine my horror when several hours later I discovered the return of the holes.

I think it is caused by the fact that, not only have channels such as CBBC, BBC News and Sky News got new numbers, but the old numbers are now broadcasting messages telling you where to find the channels now. That's overload for the 9150, 9200 and 9300.

As there appears to be no going back, I've had to retune and leave out yet another MUX so goodbye to Sky News and Challenge.

I'm now left with just 3 muxes (the same as Freeview Lite?).

All holes are gone and I think it's time to start investigating a new box to use before the end of the year. HD and no holes are requirements. Being able to take recordings off the box would be nice (but I suspect this is where I'll fall down).

If you haven't updated yet... don't bother - live with the old channel numbers. I'll certainly be warning my parents and in-laws not to update!

Instead of 80 it's now 130. If you don't retune, 80 still works and, I believe, will continue to do so. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

If you've already retuned you get the list. If you don't retune, you still get the old channel and don't risk a gappy EPG.

Ok but eventually you'll have problems because this retune was to make way for new channels

But if you don't retune, you won't get the channels - the very same extra channels which will make your PVR run out of memory and make holes appear in your EPG. I'm afraid we are stuck. If we want new channel numbers and new channels we update and get a gappy EPG. If we want a full EPG but old channel numbers and fewer channels, we don't update. I assume that not updating will keep the channels as they are (with old numbers) ad infinitum unless the frequencies broadcast on are changed?

I have a 9150 and channels that have moved say so in the prog box, i.e 80 BBC News, "This channel has moved to 10", clicking on 80 does nothing, just leaves the menu on screen and same for all others that have moved.

One thing I have a problem with is when manual retuning I delete several numbers , i.e. VIVA, but despite several retunes and turning off and on of TV these programmes still show in the menu.

Wouldn't it be great if the commercial boys put all those crappy shopping channels on the same MUX. Then there would be no debate as to which MUX to bin! Rapidly thinking that I will have to ditch a couple of MUXes before too long as after the retune last week, the EPG has got worse.

Assuming that manual tuning has got you to the right tx, then the underlying problem is not resolvable unless Humax give us a fix which isn't going to happen. Why can't they be open and honest and say that it is an inherent fault now in the design of the 9x00 series and that there is (a) no point in doing yet another reset and (b) no point in sending it back for replacement (and thereby losing all your recording).

Humax could get brownie points by offering a trade-in on the 9x00's against a newer model. As it is I will be casting around what else is on the market.

There was another channel update a few days ago which seems to have removed the 'notices' on the old children's and news channels. I risked a retune of the BBC mux and added the Sky News mux back in. All seems ok (so far). Those notices must have tipped my machine over the edge!

I just deleted all my channels and did a manual retune but forfeiting two of the muxes, The EPG was already populated by the time I'd finished the last MUX manual tune! Adding one of the MUXes back in, it seems to start to have gaps. Luckily I have a PVR from a different manufacturer and that is fine EPG-wise so I'll probably stick to using that for the two MUXes removed from the Humax
