If you look at any science fiction, fantasy or indeed any genre. There will always be instances where one resembles another.
As for Doctor Who, it has been going for some many years, there are bound to be episodes and characters that resemble other films or programmes.
Yes you could say the Gunslinger was a ripoff of the Terminator. Or that the Borg are a ripoff of the Cybermen etc etc. Who cares, as long as the story itself is good and you enjoy it.

South Park did an episode years ago where one kid was trying to come up with dastardly plans and people kept telling him the Simpsons already did it

But the internet is the unofficial place for moaning!
Moaning to the BBC is on an entirely different level.

If people will moan about doctor who, which, even if you don't like it, at least tries to tell some interesting stories and spark peoples imaginations. Then I hope there are plenty of people moaning about"reality TV " rubbish too which doesn't seem to do much at all.

Somebody should write to Points of View about that.

They are probably from people who describe themselves as Doctor Who fans yet spend hours commenting on Digital Spy articles about how the show is rubbish, doesn't rate, and how THEY know what Moffat should do with the series.

I even saw someone comment on the Town Called Mercy review that the new BBC1 controller should axe it.

Welcome back to 1987...

Yeah, I saw that. That person thinks the show should be axed, because one episode is not to their liking. How ridiculous! I don't remember myself screaming that the show should be axed during Series 2, because "New Earth", "Fear Her" and "The Idiots Lantern" were not to my liking.

Wasn't Jurassic Park just a rip-off of The Land Before Time?

Voyage of the Damned was The Poseidon Adventure. Plus bits of the Bible or something.

Planet of the Dead - Stargate?

Well the large flying insect from The Green Death was just a rip-off of the flying bug in Starship Troopers.

Sutekh's time tunnel in Pyramids of Mars was blatantly Stargate.

And Planet of the Spiders was a quick re-hash of Arachnophobia.

Surprised people didn't complain to Barry Took at the time...

I was genuinely shocked to hear that. Thought this was going to be a retro thread about how people used to moan before the internet!

I don't think so..the other way round maybe..As for the first 3 eps of series 7, Not impressed much at all really, my idea of including light hearted/ comedic moments should really only be there to serve as a quick release from the foreboding menace and to lighten mood briefly, I'm sorry to say that so far, for me, the only episode where there have been scenes that I have genuinely felt remotely uneasy and claustrophobic watching, was in Day of the moon, which imo was bang on in the heebie-jeebies stakes..I just hope the rest of series 7 isn't so farcical, because at the moment for me, it has been more 'Carry on Doctor' than 'Doctor Who'...Too many inuendo's and cringe worthy moments both visually and audibly and not enough scares to forgive the daftness..Imo..

Havent read the whole thread so this may have been covered but I'm pretty sure they're less like the films than recent xmas episodes, pretty much ripping off The Christmas Carol and TLTW&TW respectively.

I'm enjoying Series 7 so far. It's not the best but certainly not the worst!

Oh yes. Wikipedia says..

The Doctor Who serial " The Androids of
Tara " (1978) had as a working title "The
Androids of Zenda" and used a similar
plot and setting. It featured Tom Baker
as the Doctor and Mary Tamm in four
roles: Romana and Princess Strella, and
android doubles of each. The 1980
novelisation was by Terrance Dicks, who
was script-editor on the 1984 BBC
serialisation of Zenda .
