You lot make me laugh sometimes. You're the kind of brigade which regularly lines up to slag off Heart or any mainstream station because it's bland and boring, yet when you find a BBC show which serves a real PSB role - albeit quirky and a bit leftfield - you slate that too, and come up with nonsense like "she must have something on the management".
I don't mind Heart, but if I don't like, I retune.

Same goes for Jail Mail. It can transmit till the cows come home for all I care, I just switch it off!

There must be a reason why it's still on it's current slot after the cuts come in, as I was under the impression BBC Local Radio was supposed to close at 1am.

As for the nonsense remark, as you put it, I've always been cynical & taking the p*** on various forums.

People have done to me & I'm supposed to take it, but if I start retaliating, I get slagged off & it's not fair!

And you make me laugh when you refer to those of us who post on here as "you lot" and seem to assume that we all share the same opinion on this one.

Personally I have no problem with BBC WM broadcasting Tracey's Jail Mail, I think it provides a public service for the relatives of prisoners in the Midlands area and don't see what harm it is doing considering it goes out at an hour when WM would only be simulcasting 5 Live away. For what it's worth, I've no problem with what Heart FM does either even though it is not the kind of radio I would choose to listen to.

I posted this message about Tracey's Jail Mail when it was being criticised in another thread covering BBC WM on here some time ago:

This may be a controversial opinion but I really don't have any problem with BBC WM broadcasting Tracey's Jail Mail.

It's not a show I've ever listened to in any great detail, but whenever I have caught bits of it - usually the last few minutes while waiting for WM to start relaying Up All Night - it seems to be as much a dedication programme for the families of prisoners as it is for the prisoners themselves.

Having a platform for (license fee paying) family members of prisoners to pass on messages and dedications to loved ones is something I can see why the BBC see fit to do and have been able to justify doing for many years now. It's not a service anyone else is doing as far as I know, serves a minority of license fee payers and is broadcast in an off-peak timeslot for the mainstream but at what might be a difficult and important time for the people affected on the outside of the prison walls.

It is easy to demonise prisoners but should we extend that perception to their family members, many of whom for whatever the deeds of their loved ones will be struggling with the realities of having that person incarcerated themselves, and deny them what might be a source of relief and comfort?

Maybe BBC Local Radio should do dedication programmes for those in the armed forces - given the target audience BFBS Radio seems a better platform for such a show, although I wouldn't be against BBC Radio doing this as well if they can reach those stationed abroad - but I don't see why broadcasting a dedication programme for prisoners and their families in a graveyard slot that would only otherwise be used to relay Radio 5 Live is detrimental to doing anything else.

Is it Caroline Martin on at midday ?

Why does she shout so much ?

We have enough Jeremy Kyle type radio with Victoria Derbyshire on 5live without Martin jumping on the local bandwagon straight afterwards, i

Could be worse, could be Malin!

(Then again Caroline has been absent for the odd show recently, according to WM's Facebook. Mollie's been covering)

I think this has been in relation to a funeral as she's talked about on her show

Clearly you're tuning find this stuff.

How about listen to WM in the morning and 5 Live in the afternoon?

She's hardly jumping on the bandwagon. She's done this type of show for a long time with The Sanctuary on brmb. Was a big loss for Free Radio when she went.

Doolan's show, in the last hour, this morning, has repeated 'Radio Acocks Green'.

Obviously will be on IPlayer soon.

WM is on the up, however I tuned into Ed Doolan on Sunday with Les Ross "guesting" ? Both used to be good broadcasters, however it made painful and embarrasing listening.

Time to move over lads.

Very rarely listen to WM these days . Listened to the first hour of Doolans show on Sunday . What a fiasco ! Doolan no longer knows the difference between a year and a century . As for Les Ross so many inane cackles and ums and ers it was embarrassing . Asi have said before both are well past their sell date . Why does WM persist with Doolan ? He is no longer fit for purpose .
Why don't the management give a younger presenter a chance on Sundays . This constant repition of archive hours is boring and lazy broadcasting as is the dated US humour and the merry go round of the same "experts" .
The ratings will never improve until they give some new blood a chance and the station starts to deal with local issues again .

Has Ed fallen out with National Express & Centro, the local bus people?

Haven't heard them on there for ages, unless their spots have moved to another show?

There was at least one occasion recently (The changes to buses in the West Bromwich area) where they should have been on!

Just remembered, Ed has an account on here, but he hasn't been spotted on here for ages.

Have some of us 'hit a nerve' ?

I like Danny Kelly but he's starting to irritate me. When callers try to make further points, he'll state they only have 10 seconds left and will then go and ramble after the call for a couple of minutes or play a song. His show for a period of time didn't play songs which was a lot better.

I also don't understand why half way through providing the contact details (i.e the phone number or text number) he stops and talks about something else, then goes back to giving the contact numbers.

I do like him as a radio presenter but he's got these two very annoying habits. Especially when he's following on from Caroline Martin who manages to pull off the same format a lot better.

Caroline Martin is doing a good job. Would never bother to listen to Jo Malin on iplayer and would go out my way to avoid her show but Caroline has done a top job and I listen to her show on an evening sometimes. Well done WM! Danny Kelly isnt too bad. Dont understand why they are playing music on his show now. Pointless and annoying. This is a chat station not a music show. It used to be that anyone filling in for him who wasn't too good used to play music as I got the impression they were short on callers. Danny ditch the tunes I'll listen to Radio 1 if I need music.

Bill Buckley doing the Doolan paper review this morning.

As he is doing the Oxford lunchtime show, he was in a rush to catch the 1004 from New Street down south.

(He actually lives in Brum City Centre!)
