Strange radio noises . . .

For some reason I can hear french radio in the background when my TV is hooked up to my stereo system. I've used a cable from the headphone socket on the TV to an audio in socket on the stereo. Does anyone know what might be causing it and how I can stop it?

poorly screened cable, and a poor "hi fi" unit.

It's picking up medium wave radio, and some device in the hi fi is acting like a radio receiver.

I've not heard that happening for years, and only on poor quality "hi fi" units.

I agree - even with poorly screened cables it shouldn't happen on a correctly designed unit.

This reminds me of when I had a crappy Alba Midi System as a kid in the 80's. When selecting the tape function you used to often hear police broadcasts.
