2) Nope that accolade goes to Paul Mcartney and he was my idol back in the day but his vocals were shocking. I can't remember if he was on the closing cermoney but he def nmade hash of the opening. Ray Davis was pretty awful on the closing night!! |

I think most of the new boybands lack that, not just 1D. I mean, listen to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1bje73I4so http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGENfviLcko And if someone thinks you can't actually do nice harmonies because you mostly sing uptempo songs (like 1D), Nsync is a great example it is possible: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onVfqX3ZA-o http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpzYyabA9ss And I actually agree that 1D were not very good at the Olympics - it is probably because of them being nervous, but they were weak vocally. |

Looking at what happened with Bieber today, I don't think these lads have shown any of that, instead they take it all in their stride rather than letting the pressure get to them - they are in my opinion far more respectable.
Many of their TV interviews are enjoyable, especially those on Alan Carr's show. I think it's the 'boyband' label that makes people say 'they can't sing' and whatever but sit down and watch them perform a ballad (depends which performance) and you may be surprised. |

I think people hate them because they don't write their own music and don't have decent voices (watch first X-Factor auditions). Also the fact their looks if what sells their tracks. I personally don't have a problem with them and enjoy their music but I do think they're so overrated.

They all have writing credits on the songs "Summer Love" and "Irresistable" from their latest album and "Taken", "Everything About You" and "Same Mistakes" from the first album. I remember reading that Zayn wrote his verse in What Makes You Beautiful himself. |

You'd very much them have a decent song written by someone else rather than a poor song written by them. I'm sure when it came to the first album and the first songs they recorded, they obviously had some input to make sure they came out with the right songs.
Little Things, despite the fact they didn't write it, worked well for them. It displays their vocal ability a bit more than other songs. They know well themselves that they can't do uptempo songs all the time. But it's their acoustic performances (without an audience) that show off their voices better. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBxbTbalCCc (guitarist looks a bit like Sheldon Cooper .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l48NsgWrgrg |

Despite the fact that Little Things shown their vocal ability a little mire, I don't like the song because they completely copied Ed Sheeran - it is like they listened to the demo and just copied him. They could have shown some creativity but they didn't

I don't think they're any more offensive than any other young boybands in the last 10 years really. They are what they are, a bunch of good looking kids with average (but not as poor as a lot of people say) singing voices who are marketed to perfection. They know that their core fanbase of girls aged 8-16 like them for their looks first and musical talent second so they play up to that.
The thing that grinds my gears about One Direction are their fans, and it's mainly down to the new age of social networking and the anonymity Twitter brings. It's so easy for these girls hide behind their computer screens/smartphones to band together and gang up on anyone who dares say anything remotely negative about the band they worship so much, or any girl who is linked to them in the papers. Bieber's so-called 'Beliebers' are guilty of this as well. |

One direction's main problem is their fans (much like the bieber) someone shares their opinion & hell on earth is released. Their fans need to realised people are allowed a opinion on them.
& one direction needs to encourage their fans to be nicer. One direction was predicted to be big, and unfortunately they are. & have got to big for their boots. Harry is really the only one who gets the main headlines. The others seem levelheaded in a way... A few more years & the hype will die down. |

Peopleon't hate them personally I don't think I'm sure they're nice guys. It's just when you watch 5 guys that were average singers (apart from Liam) be manufactured so blatantly in our faces go on to have millions of fans and be multimillionaire's without having put in the years of work other artist have. it just feels pretty unjust. Not their fault but it's the truth.

I actually think there is some vocal talent there. I'm not saying they are amazing singers, but in terms of achieving their aim and be suitable for their purpose, their voices can't really be faulted.
But what really irks me is their fans (or at least some of them). I don't think I know a more negative fanbase. I've seen so many of them delight more in mocking and displaying their apparent 'wit' against other, similar groups or teenage targeted singers than actually enjoying the band they are supposedly a fan of. There's a real group mentality that because 1D have had such a good amount of success they can feel free to slate whoever they want to deem as lesser. Obviously all fanbases have their unpleasant characters, and I'm sure there are some very nice directioners, but there are some 1D fans who take smugness and arrogance to a new extreme. I can't say I want One Direction to fail particularly, because I don't care much either way, but on the other hand it would be good for some of these smug twitter members to have a bit of mocking come their way for a change. |
