Well, she's already technically sort of met the Daleks/been a Dalek, (well Oswin has) so I wouldn't mind in the S7 finale or 50th anniversary that they meet.

Rewatching some of the Master and Martha scenes in Series 3 is kind of prompting this as well.

I do want The Master to meet another regular companion. Seeing as Wilf was a one-off.

If Oswin does return - that would be an interesting battle, I think.

Exactly.

Besides, we're due a return for him as well and I'm sure scenes with him and Clara would be every bit as fab as the ones he had with Martha.

Providing Moffat doesn't use her as eight-episode fodder.

Not sure I understand this one.

All I can say is that I am not expecting The Master to return as his story was brought to a conclusion when he returned to The Time Lords. I gather he was always meant to be written out. I believe this was planned as far back as the 80s.

If he came back I think it would be a waste if he was simply The Doctor's Moriarty again (his main motive ‘insanity’ is now gone). I'd rather see a reformed character then see any moustache twirling.

I refuse to believe RTD had the brief to remove The Master from the show for good.

He will be back. In what form. With what agenda. With what body and personality. Who knows.

That's because he doesn't. The Master's perished loads of times and always come back, so I doubt even a Time Lock will keep off screen forever to be honest.

I can see Simm coming back to do a regeneration scene and then a new actor taking on the role.

As for Clara, I think it's almost safe to assume that she'll be with the 11th Doctor for the remainder of his time on the show and seeing as Matt Smith is rumoured to be doing an eighth series, I can't see Clara being a one series only companion.

But we never actually saw that. In fact, it was obvious by its omission. It is an intentional ambiguous ending for the Master, as there will always be a way to have him back.

But not as a 'reformed' character - that would undermine his history in Who. He doesn't have to be the nefarious dastardly moustachioed high-camp villain from before, and nor does he have to be the insane manic ADHD-suffering villain from NuWho. There are other ways to write a foil for the Doctor - for that is what he is, and it's necessary to have one - without repeating exactly what came before (as was demonstrated between Classic and New Series Doctor Who).

I have to admit, I'd hate the idea of the Master reformed. It just wouldn't ring true with the character.

I do think that whoever plays the role after Simm, they'll bring a different approach to the character but something that compliments the role though.

Even though I loved Simm's version of the character.

Never fear, even a reformed Master is still The Master and will inevitably resort back to type.

Just to clarify - having the appearance of being reformed (like in the audio Master, or how he was in Utopia)only to heel turn back into his old ways would be a great way of reintroducing him.

But fully reforming him? Nah - not on my watch, Sonny Jim!

After striking down Rassilon, he returns as President.

No matter what, there will definitely be the potential for a Master resurrection! May be in series 7.2...or may even be in the 50th Anniversary....or even perhaps the Fields Of Trenzalore when he is in fact part of the alliance of the Silence...with Kovarian, Omega, Davros and The Master being a part of it with those Silents creatures hmmmmm....we will see

That would be quite the episode, Josh.

One thing about this and how he may return is The Master will be one of the very few people who know The Doctor's real name well I'm guessing he will as they knew each other before he took his title

Thankies Shawny Boy!!

But i have always been intrigued as to how Davros would be as an independant VIllian, I would love to see his "Big gun villians" collaborate together....and also i would love Kovarian to be utilised in a massive scale plot against the Doctor...which we may have more hints at in series 7.2 and series 8...maybe even the 50th anniversary...a celebration of Who past, present and future....with a villain(s?) from the shows past, a contemporary villian and a new one perhaps??

Anyways we will see but i do have a feeling that this alliance is something very broad and dangerous and a little bit excting

Either way, some Clara and Master scenes would be nice.

Don't have the source to hand (Confidential??) but I have heard that he wanted to pick up The Master story and resolve it as originally intended before old-Who was canned.

I still think the only reason he would come back is because he is a popular villain. There is no reason within the on-going story to bring him back.

As I understand it: the Master is a rogue Timelord like the Doctor; he has no companion so has the Megalomania that we sometimes see in the Doctor; the Timelords inserted some awful drum-and-bass in his head which gave him an extra layer of mental-ness.

I agree that he could return as the leader of the surviving Timelords and perhaps be at odds with the Doctor's philosophy rather than just an out-and-out villain.

I'm sure a new rouge Timelord would be a better bet as that story could be built from scratch to match the modern show.

After all that I wouldn't be surprised if he was brought back simply because he fills a void.

I'll be surprised if we don't see him at least in the 50th anniversary.

Should we link this with the lipstick thread?

The Doctor isn't really a rogue Time Lord as such. More of a maverick I'd say. The definition of a rogue is along the lines of
"an unprincipled, deceitful, unreliable person; a scoundrel or rascal.", while a maverick can be defined as "a person who
refuses to play by the rules, isn't scared to cross the line of conformity, but their unorthodox tactics get results!".

If he went that crazy from drum and bass it's lucky they didn't use Rebecca Black!
