I'd need email addresses for the ITT production team. If I have time I'll see if I can source them.

You're right though - I think Zoe would present & demonstrate The Rules with great gusto!

I can't believe this! And on the ITT thread as well, I'm stunned and flattered! Thank you so so much because I just want to say...it's been a terrible week, my mum had a major op so it's all been very difficult, and well, this has cheered me. Thanks.

Yes, I did the nucleus of the post, then lots of kind bods added on on the Non App and expanded it, though it was before the days of the Charleston alas. No, you never got a reply back did we? Maybe it might be worth sending to Zoe as suggested, it'll make her laugh anyway!

I'll see what I can do. Fingers crossed.

Hope your Mum's OK.

Johnny Ball didn't make a bad fist of SCD - considering his years on the clock - but God how he went on about his age compared to the other contestants.

OK Johnny we get - you're the oldest contestant ever to have taken part in SCD - now give it a rest.

Somebody could send Zoe the link on Twitter. She seems to use it quite a bit - she replies to individual questions on there.

Good idea..I don't tweet or any of that so freely admit I wouldn't have a clue.

Zoe's emailbox is:

Spoiler
Zoe.Ball@BBC.co.uk
Out of 8 million viewers so many email Zoe that BBC diverts emails to a clerk, who probably forwards a few onto Zoe.

daisydee on the 'Poor Anton' thread answers the point that Anton's fans live in retirement homes. It's a terrific bit of research -- a lovely snapshot of a community -- and I love their reasons for picking their favourites

Quote:
“I have an eldely aunt in one such home, and being of a certain age, has lived through that golden age when ballroom was king. She and my parents took me along to the Saturday night dances at the local hall, where I learned both Olde Tyme and Modern dances. So naturally she and others in her retirement home enjoy SCD enormously.

I asked her to enquire amongst her fellow residents which professional was their favourite and why.

And yes, you are quite correct in you assumption - Anton topped the poll for his 'beautiful dancing, elegant air, humour and respect for his partner'. Not everyone sees what his detractors choose to see. They thought Anton did an amazing job with the difficult & disinterested.

Brendan & James got lots of votes for being handsome & fiesty (no mention of their dancing capabilities )

Pasha for being so good whilst still so young.

Ola for her skimpy costumes and her partnership with Chris Hollins.

Erin for her elegance.

Despite what some may think, many in retirement homes live an interesting and happy life. Bearing in mind that the internet can bring many problems, I have a certain envy for those who can go through life without relying on it.”

From DeltaBlues on the misogyny thread:

Quote:
“How any woman contestant ever manages to walk the tightrope of being genuine (but not too emotional), entertaining (but not too good, because they had a dozen ballet lessons aged six in which case they are automatically a RINGER), demure (but not boring, because that gets you designated a robot), pretty (but not tarty), funny (but not smug or too loud), dedicated (but not too competitive), connected to their partner (but without fancying him or threatening his existing relationship), self-deprecating (but not falsely modest), fit (but see 'dedicated' and 'entertaining') is a source of wonder. It must be like being in the biggest audience-prescribed - or at least, forum/internet-commentator-prescribed - production of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" imaginable. Your persona and dancing porridge must be just right and woe betide you, female contestant, if you allow it to overheat or cool down by the merest degree.”

One of the regulars on the Non-App thread has been giving us the Francophone view of Strictly.
I personally this this deserves a thread of its own, but in the meantime...

please be warned that some of the phrases are a bit "earthy" in the English translation

I still love keeping up with the DOT goings on so had a look at the show with my rustic neighbour Henri Didier...an SCD Virgin

(Before you ask, I have brought fresh baguettes, smelly cheeses and a very fine vat of vin rouge...Henri Didier has brought pickled garlic, apple brandy and his cigs.)

He wants to give you DOTS his Euro's worth...so I've put his comments below..

So, I know it was the 'Halloween Special' but even so...when Henri saw Lord Bruce Voldemort..
("À boire ou je tue le chien!"
Bring me something to drink or I kill the dog! )

*WTF were Vinthent and Diddy Dani?
("Ils sont seule haut comme trois pommes!"
literally: they are only as tall as three apples".ha! ha!)

*The irony of Victearia being a Corpse Bride wasn't lost on me and I thought Brenda was much improved in looks as a ghoul
( " Sucer les pissenlits par la racine"B(literally: "they are as dead as dandelions who have been sucked by the roots ")

*Lisa and Robin....
( " Je te vois venir avec tes gros sabots"
(literally: "I see you coming with your big clogs")

*Colin and Crotchtittya...
"Il y une couille dans le potage"( "There is a problem here"
(literally: "there is a ball (i.e., testicule) in the soup")

*Fern and Artem...
("Elle dance avec des casseroles au cul"
(literally: "she dances with saucepans hung on her arse")

*Richard and Erin...
( "Il coincer la bulle"
He is simply bumming around

After much shoulder shrugging he concluded that most of the slebs..

" Peigner la girafe"

Did something quite useless (literally: "to comb the giraffe")

He wants to watch next week's though...

When Ola came on..
" Il en a bavé des ronds de chapeau"His eyes nearly popped out of his head (literally: "he dribbled hat circles")

Salut mes braves...”

"Mais non! Non! Elle serrais comme un cheveu sur la soupe"

He has booked his seat for next Saturday.
He is bringing home brewed cider and bunny pasties (I love bunnies)

I think he is....
"Ronger son frein"
To champ at the bit (literally: "to gnaw one's beak")

at the thought of seeing...
"Les belles dames dans leurs froufrous riens"
(the lovely ladies in their frilly nothings)

By the way, when I told him Sid had got the guillotine he said in a very snarky fashion...
" Se faire chier comme un rat mort!"
(To be extremely boring (literally: "to make oneself shit like a dead rat")”

"Avoir chaud aux plumes"
Had escaped a great danger
(literally: "to have one's feathers hot")

Looking at some of the 'spooktacular Halloween' photos I concur.

I explained that now Sid, or 'Seed' as Henri knew him, was 'kaput'...so was Ola.

He waggled his furry caterpiller eyebrows menacingly and declared this was a great excuse to...
"Fumer comme un sapeur et boire comme un trou!"
(To smoke like a like a fireman and drink like hole!)”

Henri Didier is now a committed Non-Appreciator of Gallic proportions.

As he is oft heard to say he does not..
"Attaquer bille en tête"
(He doesn't beat about the bush..he prefers "to attack with a marble in his head")

Now Ola is...
"Perdu dans ses bras"
(lost to his bosom)...

he has decided that his affections will be given to...
"Kristina...elle regarde aussi comme une pute"
(Kristina..she also looks like a w***e)”

I have heavily censored many of his more pithy comments....especially once his bottle of home brew apple brandy had been sunk without trace...but he does have his favourites....

"J'aime la danse en sous-vêtementfemmes"
(I love the ladies who dance in their underwear)

....and those that fall foul of his critical Breton eye....
"Elle danse comme un buffle à feu"*
(she dances like a buffalo on heat)
*no prizes for guessing that one.

He is 'very excitable' about Saturday's show.”
