How do you know it's a Registry problem?

Sorry to nag, but you would have had the prompt to create recovery disks when you first turned on the PC.

What you really need is a Vista DVD which you can use to attempt a Startup Repair.

Try booting into 'Safe Mode' or 'Last known Good Configuration' by tapping F8 as soon as you switch on. It's unlikely to work in this instance, though.

You may already have the Vista recovery environment installed, so no need for a disk. Tap F8 when you swtich on and look for the 'Repair your Computer' option. If it's there, select it and try 'Start-up Repair' or System Restore.

Note that you don't want to choose any option which will restore the computer to factory settings, as this will erase everything. The factory recovery is, however, a last resort in case you don't manage to fix the problem. But you will first need to find a way to backup any files which you don't want to lose.

If you need to backup any files before trying to repair the HDD, you could try running a Linux Live CD/DVD (such as Knoppix), or Hiren's boot CD/DVD first.
